Why is it appropriate to tip a bartender when they bring a bottle of beer and not pour it into a glass?!

Question: When a bartender makes a drink, or even pours a beer there is a certain art and skill required to make it just right and in these cases the bartender does without question deserve to get a tip.

Do bartenders who just grab a bottle of beer out of the fridge and open it really deserve to get anything? They are basically glorified vending machines at this point and the only reason I'd have to deal with the bartender is because there is a bar between me and the beer fridge.

Whereas a tip for waiter/waitress is an expression of how satisfied you are with service already provided, usually a tip for a barmaid or bartender is to ensure future service will be good. A well seen-to bartender will learn your drink; have it ready before you even have to ask; make sure if it is supposed to be cold (like beer) it is taken from the coolest part of the chiller; provide better quality liquor and, if they can get away with it, overpour. Plus they will serve you first if they see you standing amongst the masses waiting for their attention. Other percs include insider information--i.e., specials nights; how to chat up the good-looking girl/guy at the end of the bar; ...

Bartenders and barmaids make their money by being appreciated. The more you appreciate them, the better they treat you.

yes u should tip them the reason he probably didnt pour it in is b/c sum people are finnicky about people pouring drinks in there glass like people with germi-phobia besides mayb he thought u wanted 2 save the rest for later.i mean think about it..and 4 a tip tip him 20 % of the bill

Although I agree, some people prefer to drink from the bottle. And if you want it in a glass, ask for it or get draft.

Edit: To the poster above me - 20%? Are you mad? I could see that if they were serving you exclusively. Normally a beer is around $3.50-$4.00. I give them a $5 bill and walk away (unless they're really friggin hott, I'll reach deeper, lol).

I always leave a $1 tip a round - That round could include 5 beers - but the tip is still $1.

dont tip ever! thats what i say. Why should they get a tip they're only doing their job. Do you tip a sales assistant for bringing something to you in a different size? Do you tip the doctor after a visit? Nop didn't think so. What's so special about Waitresses/Waitors and barstaff that they deserve a tip. It makes me so mad, maybe if they do something double extra special for you.

DEPENDS ON HOW MANY BEERS YOUR ORDERING BUT I USUALLY GIVE A $1 FOR EACH BEER I ORDER ESPECIALLYIF I KNOW THEM IF ITA NASTY BARTENDER OR THEY TAKE THERE TIME THEN FOR A WHOLE ROUND THEY MIGHT ONLY GET A $1.I THINK I HATE IS NASTY SERVICE FOR NO REASON

I think the best reason to leave a tip for the bartender, is so next time you need a beer, they will ask you first because they know that you will tip them.

you need to tip him because the above statements are true and bartenders and waitresses, make 2.50 hr thats it. I have yet to figure it out, this is for one of the above statements you are suppose to tip more then $1

Bartenders are just like the waiters and waitresses they don't make a alot of money by an hourly wage and thats why we pay tips an thats how they make their money.

If you want to get another beer any time soon.

Dont go to a bar then by a six pack and drink at home....thats why its hard to make a living in that industry because people like you dont realize that not only does your tips count towards their tiny little wages but in most cases their taxed on it.Thats why there is a standard 15% gratuity expected because thats what the tax is.Dont be mean to ur bartenders its not as easy a job as it looks.

regardless of what you order , beer or mixed drink... if you cant tip don't go out

buy a 12 pack and stay at home where you wont embarrass yourself and your family or friends
