ok, once you become an alcoholic you are always considered an alcoholic, but you are considered a "recovering alcoholic". If you are asking how long do you have to not drink to feel the "craving" of not wanting to drink anymore, I think that is an individual answer, but I would think 3 months to be more correct than 21 days. When my husband was going to have to stop drinking at the age of 34 because he was going into liver failure, the doctors told him if he needed medicine to help with the cravings, or withdraws, that they would help him. He just quit on his own though. I guess when your faced with death, that decision is easy....for some people anyway. Good luck.

Ask someone in AA. It's not the time spent away from alcohol, its the day when you decide you don't NEED to have a drink. If you spend any time at all thinking about the next time youre going to have a drink, you could have a problem.

I would say the rest of your life, if you are wondering when it is safe to resume drinking.

Many people think after a period of sobriety, they can handle alcohol in reasonable amounts, then end up spiraling downwards and losing the trust of people until they hit bottom. Once you are addicted to alcohol, you will be an alcoholic for the rest of your life.

if you ever take a drink again, you'll know --you will always be addicted--JUST DON'T DRINK

If you are an alcoholic, you will always be an alcoholic. AA meetings are filled with people who think they have their problem beaten, only to relapse. If you think you have a problem, or if people are telling you that you do, get yourself to a meeting. The first step to recovery is admitting you need help.

If you are addicted...you can never drink again! It is the nature of alcoholism. Go to some AA meeting s and talk to them they can help

if ur addicted to alcohol, no matter how long you stay off it you will always be addicted to it. once an alcoholic always an alcoholic simple as that, its up to you to stay away and say no to it.

When you no longer crave it... There isnt a set time limit

Alcohol isn't an addictive substance, its the person with an addictive personality. So once it is out of your system and you are over your hangover, then you are not addicted anymore. And just because you were once an alcoholic, it doesn't mean that you will always be an alcoholic. You can overcome alcoholism and still have a social drink every once in a while. Its all about self control, which you can gain.
