Looking for a good Champagne???!

Question:

Looking for a good Champagne???

I have a birthday for a friend of mine that is very special to me and I want to get her a nice bottle of champagne. Wine I can pick but a las I am not so good with champagne. I don't want to buy a $ bottle of champagne, but I also can't afford to buy a $100 bottle.
Suggestions please.

Answers:
My favorite (under $50 here in Texas) is Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. You can find it at any liquor store. It has a distinctive orange label and it is one of the best buys for the price.

The other one is Perrier Jouet (also under $50). The plain label is delicious. If you want to really splurge, buy the one with the hand-painted flowers on the bottle, but in reality you will be paying more just because of the distinctive bottle.

I spoke with a liquor wholesaler and he told me that there is no difference between the "flower bottle" Perrier Jouet and the unmarked one. But if the lady in question is mad about champagne, she'd appreciate the hand-painted flower bottle.

Just my $0.02.

Libiamo!

My favorite is Meot WhiteStar - you can get it at most liquor stores for anywhere from $35-45 a bottle.

Veuve Cliquot is a good recommendation if it must be French. Around $50.

If California is ok, Roederer Estate is excellent and half the price of V.C.

If you want to find a good Champagne that she won't see sitting in the grocery store, go to a wine shop and ask for Billecart-Salmon, Bollinger, Pol Roger, or Laurent Perrier. They aren't the most common, but delicious and relatively easy to find, and about the same price (around or under $50). If you want to spend a little more, get a vintage champagne-these have years on them, as opposed to the regular "house style." Whoever is working at the wine shop will understand and have no problem helping you
