Why can't beer, wine and liquor companies be sued like drug and cigarette companies?!
Answers: Why is it that we can sue drug companies for making a drug that harms us, and cigarette companies for making a product that gives us lung diseases, but we can't sue the alcohol companies? These companies that distribute alcohol, make a product that causes us much more harm than the others. We get cirrosus (spelling) liver, pancreitis, and whatever else and we consume a product that makes us become addictive to it and do stupid things that in turn get us in serious criminal trouble and even cause some of us to kill others from its use. This product causes marriages and families to break up, causes fatal car accidents, mishaps at work and loss of work, legal problems, just to name a few. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? People may say, just don't drink it, but some of us have that addictive gene in us and when we take that 1st drink, we are addicted.
You're right that some of us have a gene which includes an addictive personality. For instance, I can't stop drinking Dr. Pepper. I've tried over and over. I can't stop reading romance novels. I can't control my shopping. One might say, well, if you were in a place and there were none of those things, you'd stop. Yes, I would. And I would exhibit all of those nasty withdrawal symptoms a drunk would.
Fortunately, beyond the choice to take that first drink, is the choice to take a second. It may almost be not there, but it exists nonetheless. And that is the reason we can't sue the alcohol companies. People choose to drink.
Cigarette companies lied to us and didn't disclose the dangers of their products. That makes them liable. Likewise the drug companies.
But the alcohol coalition has warned over and over and over about drinking responsibly, drinking and driving and there are even laws about serving too many drinks to any one person. In there lies the difference.

It's not why CAN'T people sue alcohol companies, but why CAN people sue cigarette companies. Take responsibility. The world would be better if people stopped pretending they are victims.
It's coming...trust me. There is no 'personal responsibility' anymore. It's always someone else's fault, and we are all victims.

You CAN if you really want to, and if you think you might have a case against them. Basically, you can sue anyone, but the question is whether you'd win or not.

I have a bottle of beer in my fridge that has never caused a marriage to break up, it has never broken up a family, it has never caused a fatal accident, it has never caused anyone to miss work, it has never caused legal problems.
Why can't you accept responsibility for your own actions and what you do when consuming the products of these companies.
I'm going to my fridge to drink my beer. If my marriage falls apart, if my family breaks up, if I wreck my car and kill someone, if I get sued, if I miss work, if I lose my job, then I have only myself to blame.
Why can't we sue the NFL for causing marital conflict for every time the garbage wasn't taken out during Monday night football?
Why can't we sue McDonald's for serving us food that is unhealthy?
Why can't we sue Las Vegas for giving us the option of gambling on card games?
When you chose drinking, smoking, eating fat, gambling, and laziness, you are the only one to blame.
For what? No one MADE them buy a fifth of Scotch...everyday for 20+ years...
Great question, I'm sure people have tried, And in my opinion any court that grants these people money something is wrong, If your legal age you need to take responsibility into your own hands....
