Tequila usually gets a bad rap mainly since people tend to drink garbage that Jose Cuervo puts out. It doesn't matter what you mix Cuervo with, you can always taste it...it's like death.
Go for the good stuff and mind you, it won't come cheap. You'll notice a significant difference in the taste/flavor. Here are a couple to try that are solid and well known TQs:
Don Julio, El Tesoro and Patron...when in doubt, look for these words in the label - Reposado or 100% Agave...
Not really. It doesn't go down nicely but it doesn't burn the way things like 151 or makers mark does. It just has that god awful smell to it which is enough to make you want to gag but it is not really bad on your throat. If you have never done tequilla before keep a glass of OJ handy probably the best chaser for it. Also do not take too much of that stuff it makes you go sideways.
