Temp to serve wine?!

Question: I know nothing about wine. I have a bottle of Shiraz I want to serve some guests and am wondering if I should put it in the fridge or not?

Here's a helpful tip I heard once...

20 minutes before you're about to have the wine, put the red INTO the fridge and take the white OUT.

This slightly cools the red and slightly warms the white to the desired temperatures.

Red wine should be served at room temp. Do not refrigerate.

yes for about 30-40 mins about 20 below room temp will let it bloom in your mouth.

As a red, do not fridge. Serve at room temperature, but about 72 degrees.

Most red wine should be served at about 60-65 degrees. Depending on your home temp. you just might need to stick in the fridge for 10 minutes or so.

Remember good wines are traditionally stored in a cool wine cellar.

Generally red wine should always be served at room temp, but what is room temp? When this "rule" was established room temp was an average of 60 degrees. Never serve wine warm, try and always serve at 65 degrees or less.

The warmer a wine, the "hotter" the alcohol will feel in your mouth. The colder the wine, the more subdued the flavors.

It's ok to chill a red wine, but I would do so for no more than 15-20 minutes and if the glass frosts when poured, wait a while before drinking to ensure you taste the real character of the wine.

its up to the individual....some like it room temp....others like it chilled...

Red wines should be served at @ 18 - 19 deg C. Depending on where you live you may need to chill before serving to achieve the right temp.

Never listen to so-called experts. You have to drink the wine, so you decide at what temperature you think the wine is good to drink. Experts think globally, they don't clean up if you find the wine undrinkable.

Red wine should be served at room temp or 58deg Fahrenheit. That is the temp of cellars they keep wine in. But before you serve the wine pour it out into a jug and then pour back into your bottle, this is called decanting and puts air into your wine and makes it taste far better. It works with cheep bottles of red wine as well. It brings out the flavors in the wine.

As you can see by all the answers you have already gotten...Reds are room temperature -- a cool room to be sure -- at 58 to 72 degrees. Don't worry about the exact temp -- just don't put the bottle in the direct sun before you drink it. Americans -- I am one -- tend to drink their wines too fast or too quickly. That is the more egregious sin than the difference of 5 to 10 degrees. Open your bottle thirty minutes to an hour before your guests arrive. In fact, if you can decant then a thirty-minute decant almost always improves the overall quality of that first breath and taste.
