Going to a bar for the 1st time with friends, whats a good drink to order so I won't look stupid?!
Answers: Ok so Im going to a bar for the first time with friends, and I don't want to order the cheesy drinks I usually get (ie: Pi?a Colada), ok so I know Rum and Coke (tried a cosmo...i dont like) i like 'em sweet. SO any suggestions?
First off, there is nothing cheesy about a Pina Colada. In fact, a well made Pina Colada is a sign of a top-class bar.
Your order largely depends on the type of bar. If it is a fancy bar with top notch bartenders, they will likely have a menu of interesting house specialties. If not, you will come off as a truely sophiticated bartender if you ask the bartender what his or her specialty is, let him know you're looking for something on the sweet side, and order one of them. (If you are at a lower caliber bar, you may get a blank stare from the bartender.)
If you are going to the neighborhood watering hole, you'll be best to get something simple. Beer, wine, cider, or a simple drink like rum&coke.
If it is a mid-level bar, look around and see what everyone else is drinking. If everyone has beer, beer or wine is probably the way to go. If lots of people have cocktail glasses filled with exotic looking drinks, the bartender probably has a suggestion for you, or you could order something along the lines of a chocolate martini, appletini, margarita, etc.
Order what you like. The bartenders job is to make you a pleasing drink.
Fuzzy navel or kamikazee. Yummmm!
Can't go wrong with simply beer or wine.
Fuzzy navel is pretty good too - orange juice & Peachetree schnapps. Very sweet.
A glass of dry white wine maybe, if you like things a little sweet maybe see if they have a Gewurztraminer (a fruity off dry white)
try grey goose vodka with cranberry and a splash of pinapple
Bacardi O and Sprite.
Be tres cool by ordering A "Cuba Libra." It's a rum and coke with a twist of lime.

If you like beer, go for a beer.
I wouldn't suggest wine. Wine drinkers always look silly to me in bars. I love wine, but it cracks me up to see people kickin' back with a glass of red wine.
If you like fruity stuff go for a Screwdriver. If you like something with a little bit of a kick, go for a Bloody Mary.
I love blended strawberry margaritas, but I usually just get those at restaurants.
My bar drink was always jack and coke.
Got to have a tall Long Island Iced tea, for the first time. Nobody will care what you order though, their worried about their drink.

A good white wine is appropriate for almost any occasion.
Hope you are at leats 21 if where you live has an age restriction. One of my favorites is Woodbridge. Not to expensive.

Hurricane, Bahama Mama (Bahama Mama's are very sweet.), Fuzzy Naval, Margarita's. If you like lemonade, try something called a Lynchburg Lemonade. That's my personal favorite. White Russian's are good and sweet too.
Long Island Iced Tea
the appletini is good, a really sweet shot is beam me up scotty's which is kahlua, bailey's and butterscotch schnapps
Order whatever YOU like. Drinking isn't about making an impression... unless you drink too much and make a bad one. Just drink whatever you enjoy sensibly and you'll be fine.
Black Russian (Kahlua and vodka on ice).
Greyhound (Gin and Grapefruit juice, with slice of lime).(be prepared for the "You want a bus?" question)
If you're not a drinker, don't order anything with liquor (rum, vodka, gin).
Order a white wine, chardonnay and a glass of water on the side you can sip that drink and won't get too drunk because you'll have the water also.
Whatever you decide, order a glass of water on the side. Fizzy or non fizzy.
Bourbon or Scotch on the rocks!
buy a round of "cement mixers" for you and your friends

Why do you care what others will think? You shouldn't do things to please others, there will always be a moron who won't agree with you in every case/situation anyway..... just drink whatever you like!!! I like pi?a colada, cuba libre, frozen margaritas or daiquiris, sangria..... I also love conga, which is alcohol free (a mix of 3-4 different fruit juices). I still go out with people well over their 30's who still ask for a pi?a colada or a plain coke, nothing wrong with that.
Sex on the beach, fuzzy navel (fruity drinks)
Kahlua mudslide (think alchoholic chocolate milkshake)
Buttery nipple (shot of baily's irish cream & butterscotch schnapps, *yummo*)
Can't go wrong with a good margarita either
