How much do you tip for a bottle of wine with dinner?!

Question:

How much do you tip for a bottle of wine with dinner?

What if the dinner (food portion) is $60 and the wine itself is an additional $200.

Answers:
A flat 20% of the cost of the wine: if a wine steward served it, and not your regular waiter/waitress, I would make sure the wine steward got the tip.

I would only tip $10 extra if that's the case.

If you paid $200 for a bottle of wine why the hell are you worried about a tip. 20% of the total bill.

You tip 20 % of the total bill, as this is normally how it is done. You can always tip more if you like that is your choice.

Remember that wait people have to pay an automatic 8 % for every check that they write, at least that is how it works in the USA. I know I use to do this a while back. Weather they get a tip or not they are going to have to pay that amount for the check that they write, that is paid out in taxes. So that in all reality they are not getting 20 % from the tip. Just so that you know.

As someone who waits table. You tip based on the service. You can use the check about as a base. 15 to 20 percent is the standard these days. Please people remember that people who wait tables only make $2.13 per hour. They rely on tip to make thier money.

You pay 15-20% tip of the total bill.
