What's the nicest sweet and woody red wine?!

Question: But not too sweet.

Answers: But not too sweet.

Oh gosh...a lot of rubbish answers here!
If you are looking for a RED, SWEET and "WOODY" (I assume you mean oakie) then you must look at the TYPE of wine and NOT the grape variety mentioned here numerous times.
RED and SWEET wines....there are MANY....if we stick to Europe alone there are several made in different regions of France alone.....I however would look at Portugal and opt for PORT....which TYPE?.(There are four or five different ones) ...depends WHEN you want to drink it and HOW MUCH you want to spend...
If WOODY is also a requirement then VINTAGE PORT (the most expensive and "rare" type; ie; depending on it's VINTAGE and the HOUSE) would not do since most of it's ageing is done in the bottle (and hence it lacks the "woody" or vanilla background)....Try a good TAWNY port (if you can afford a 20 year old one...GO FOR IT!)....and see if you like it!

Trader Joe's Charles Shaw!

I would have to say Merlot.
Its definitely a good wine and not too bitter or sweet.

lambrusco

i like pino noirs from Washington state...try duck pond....maybe a 2000 or 1999

Rocce De Michelle, red, woody, not too sweet

Try some Spanish ones.

Banrock Shiraz. It's from Australia

Someone gave me a bottle of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon yesterday. I never drink red wine normally but this was nice.

Cabernet Sovieon.

Pinot Noir is pretty fruity, but I wouldn't say woody
Try Castle Rock Pinot Noir
Cabernet is woody, but not sweet.

Do you like Port?

So you are such an expert that you want something "Woody."

Then why do you want a red wine that is also sweet?

Do you really expect us to believe that you would be able to distinguish the intricacies of the the different woods used to make the barrels?

And if you could, then surely you would not want a red wine that was even slightly sweet, let alone not to sweet as you describe.

Good sweet wines, are white wines and even then they would be desert wines. Medium or sweet red wines would be Kosher wines that the Jewish community use on the Sabbath as part of the Sabbath celebration. These would not be the wines that a connoissuer would even consider. Yet you consider yourself to be expert enough to be able to taste the "Woodyness," of a wine.

That's something that only about 1 in every 100,000 wine drinkers would be able to do. And the 1 would never even think about a red wine that was even slightly sweet.

Any New Zealand wine

im not too sure but i think the best wines are from Australia and Spain! most of Scotland reckons Buckfast is the works!!!! lol!

Vampire Pino Noir
