Wine Help Please...?!

Question: I want to start trying different wines, but I don't really know where to start. I've tried a few and this is what I've learned so far.

I like sweet wines and don't like anything too dry. I also want something that's good, but not crazy expensive either. What do you recommend?

Rhine wines, White Zinfandel, Any Riunite wines Red or White, Sangrias, German Wines, Ports, Rose, Most Kosher wines like Concord grape, Those should be a good start for you, Enjoy....

Blackstone Merlot. It's normally around 12 a bottle, and it actually goes really good with cheap foods and indulgent foods. My best friend insists on having it on girls night when we get pizza, and I like it with lamb.

It's on the sweet side but doesn't have to much of a bite.

honestly...go to the nearest wine store and ask the clerks..hopefully you have a good one like i have in Buffalo...

Most will be honest and give you recomendations or pick up a Wine Spector...they give GREAT reviews.

me i like Johanesberg reisling from Idaho( St. Chapelle.
From Washington state i like Duck Pond( all), Columbia ,Covey Run,Henry Estates(Oregon)Chateau St Michelle

Try German white wines. You can get many for under $10. They are most often in blue bottles.

Riesling wines are good, but some can be dry. Make sure to read the label and see if it says.

If you REALLY like sweet, try dessert wines, sometimes called "Late Harvest" or Ice wines. These are a little more expense, come in 1/2 bottles, but are very sweet.

Get your wine in a wine store and ask someone in the store to recommend wine. There is usually at least one or two people in the store who is there to help you pick out a wine and know what they are talking about. Don't be shy to tell them you a looking for an inexpensive wine. People who are true wine lovers know that it's not the price of the wine that makes it good.

One of the best ways to learn about wines is to go to wine tastings at a winery. The knowledge base will vary per winery, but what you'll get an inexpensive education. You might have to drive for an hour to get to one, but it's a nice day trip. It's a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday, and it makes for a good date (even if you are married).

The majority of wineries do wine tasting, some charge, some are free. Some will give you free tours of the facility. They can vary from around $3-$10 on average. You'll get to try at least 4 wines and as many as 8 or more in some places.

Wine festivals are really terrific too. Some festivals can have a few dozen wineries. For your first time I'd suggest only going to those tents where the wine is in or close to your price range. Hit the largest ones. These will be the wineries that will have wines you can get in the store. Many of the small wineries will be more expensive and much harder to find in the store.

Your selection of wine festivals will obviously vary depending upon where you live. Some major wine stores and some fancier supermarkets, will also have free wine tastings. Call around before just going there.

Finally - Something you'll hear from many people is when people ask "What's a good wine?"
Answer: Any wine that you like....is a good wine!!!!

Have fun and enjoy learning all about wine - it's a lot of fun!

I'd definitely check out Relax Riesling. It's a mid-priced wine ($9 for 750mL, in ND), and it's sweet, and refreshing.

I also like Beringer White Zinfandel.

Your best bets are going to be the Rieslings, White Zins, and Blush Wines.

Columbia Crest Riesling from Washington state for a white wine and Cline zinfandel for a red wine from California is a good start.
