Question About Making Margaritas?!

Question About Making Margaritas?

I was at the store today and trying to figure out what was a better buy.
Getting the Margarita and Tequila together, or buy the mix and tequila separately.
I am thinking the blended kind has less tequila. Sure it's more convenient, but I want the bang for my buck.

Answers:
Neither. If you are a margarita drinker its well worth it to invest in all the components. A middle of the road "gold" tequila, orange liquor...triple sec is fine, but if your a connoisseur or trying to impress Id go with Gramma, a good sour mix, and fresh limes (mix with simple syrup if you don't want them too tart). Don't mess with the Rose's...its sticky and doesn't keep well. A hint on sour mix...if you want, buy the cheap stuff and add a little bit of orange and pineapple juice, it cuts the acid, and a tiny bit of egg whites, that's often where the foam comes from at a bar.

I don't buy premade anything ... and I have found the best margaritas, believe it or not, is made with Sonic Limeade (the regular kind) and putting some good, quality tequila, like Cazadores or Sauza Tres Generaciones.

I have found that the pre mixed margaritas are great! I like TGI Fridays mix or Jose Quervo margaritas are the best. I do not usually like the kinds in the buckets, they tend to be too sour for my taste. I would say go for the pre mixed, you will not be guessing about the tequila, that is for sure! Hope you have fun!

The pre-mixed stuff is only good for a large quantity of people drinking because it's quick and easy. I buy my tequila separate and I buy margarita mix (strawberry is the best) and I add tequila along with triple sec, apple pucker, and a few other flavored liquers. They are potent and you can't even taste the alcohol.

making a great margarita is neither complicated nor time consuming.

It really needs 3 components. great tequila (only buy 100% agave), fresh lime juice (skip the Rose's lime juice) and something to sweeten it with.

Nothing wrong with cointreau or Grand Marnier, but it's really not necessary unless you really like orange flavor.

Squeeze a lime fully, add 2 oz good tequila, and a tablespoon or 2 of bar syrup or agave nectar mixed with a little water. That will make an awesome margarita where you can taste the tequila, and has the right balance between tart & sweet.

Mixes are usually mostly junk with artificial color and corn syrup - guaranteed hangover. You will never have a hangover with the recipe I described.

Mixing you own drinks is definately the way to go. The premixed have almost no alcohol. I enjoy the Tarantula blue margarita. You can get a kit with mix and Tequila or pre-mixed. Sometime I will buy the pre-mixed and add Tarantula Tequila to make it stronger. It tastes great and will knock you on your ***.
