The guys on the forum are helpful when you have detailed questions and problems.

Key things to remember:

1. Don't use those ale pales to ferment in. You need a glass carboy. They sell the pales in cheap kits, but it's impossible to keep it clean enough during fermentation to get good results.

2. Sanitize anything and everything that touches your beer while making it, including your hands. I can't emphasize this enough. Easiest way is fill one sink with sanitizing solution and just dip whatever you need into it as you go.(use "Bartender's Friend" or a follow directions for a clorox solution, but clorox solutions need to dry and run the risk of flavoring the beer if you don't let it dry completely).

3. Don't try and guess when fermentation is done. Get a hydrometer and check your specific gravity.

4. Don't try and make up your own recipes too early. This is not a soup and some changing some things will mess the batch up badly.
