Would running vodka through a charcoal filter make it taste better?!


Question: i have heard that some of the really good russian vodkas are run through charcoal, if you ran some vodka through a britta filter would it taste better.... HAS ANYONE EVER TRIED IT?

They tried this on mythbusters and ran cheap vodka through a water charcoal filter like a Brita pitcher. they ran some through one, twice, three, up to 6 times I believe. Then had a vodka distributor come in and try those along with a high end vodka and try to put them in order on how many times they had been filtered. He picked it exactly right. placing the unfiltered cheap vodka as the worst, the once filtered vodka as the second best and so on.
So I believe this will work.

I don't think so. Charcoal tastes terrible even with honey on it.

Not necessarily taste better, but cleaner. What makes a very good quality vodka good is its clean smell and taste. Running vodka through charcoal filters gets out the impurities in the liquor. Another way to know if its quality is when its distilled more than once.

Charcoal acts on purity of the water used in order to balance Vodka ° up to 40° -
