Where can I get a medium sized wooden barrel...one that looks like a whiskey barrel?!

Question: I am making a "Beer & Whiskey" themed gift basket for someone and I need a medium sized barrel to use. Something that looks like a whiskey barrel, but not as huge, and I have no idea where I could go to buy one. Any suggestions?

You can buy mini barrels on eBay or from http://www.1000oaksbarrel.com/. People use these to further mature whisk(e)y.

Because they are smaller than the usual barrels used for maturation, a great proportion of the liquid is in contact with the wood surface and it matures faster.

Try an antique shop

this might sound like a stupid suggestion, but i know getting barrels from the whisky bond can be VERY expensive, they are approx £100/$200 each, i recently enquired
why not try the local garden centre, they do various sizes in various materials, wood/resin/stone to use as garden planters, a resin one would be cheap, and whilst not 100% authentic, will give the overall idea of what you are trying to produce

If you are talking about an Oak barrel used for Wine making as well.. Wine making shops have em. Not sure if I have seen one that is smaller than about 5 gallons though. And they are very expensive.

for the real thing...???
