What was your age, the first time you tried alcohol?!

Question: Hello,, my Grandfather use to give me peppermint schnapps when I was about 3 to help me calm down. I got whiskey for sore teeth. And opened the beer cans for my uncles after working the fields and always tasted them for being cold enough to serve. I drank 13 warm beers for my 13 b-day and puked corn I did not remember eating. I had alcohol poisoning at 27 yrs and given 6 months to live with the liver damage. I have not drank since July 14,1986. Saving that for retirement since there won't be any social security to save me from old age ,I'll just drink myself to death then.

If your a parent asking this question:

Most kids get introduced to alcohol in or around 6th grade. There's always that kid that a parent leaves the house unattended or they have and older sibling that gets it for them. This one chilld then introduces it to all his friends. For me, this was the norm. I chose not to do it for fear my parents would kill me but this was the time it began. As you go up in grades, the access gets easier. More parents are less concerned so there are more of those kids with easy access. It gets to the point that in my senior year, there were parents who provided the alcohol and drank with us. Not right but it happens.

If your a kid asking this question:

Please don't use this as a reference to begin drinking. Keep in mind the more you drink while your body is developing, the more health issues you may have when your older. Even though that might not mean anything to you now, trust me as an adult, it does after you turn 25. You begin to feel the effects of everything you have done in the past. All is not lost though. Party up your high school and college years. Don't start before 11th grade if you can help it. Getting into a good college generally requires a strong performace through the completion of your 11th grade year. If you get an early acceptance you can coast through senior year and most average colleges don't weight it heavily if you do a semi-decent job. Your body can take it for the most part, just be ready to live a healthy life style in your later twenties to reduce the effects and assure a long life. And remember, though alcohol and drugs may not have an immediate effect on your life, they do eventually keep you from progressing as a person in your career and in your family life.

One final note for parents and kids. The commercialized version is "Friends don't let friends do drugs/alcohol/etc" The realistic version is "Friends don't let friends do ....", "Good friends do it with you." This is sad but most certainly always true, especially for young people.

Take that and do with it what you will....

I was 18 and a half; and my first alcoholic drink was a Crested Ten whisky with ginger ale mixer...I was persuaded to try this by my then boss, who had never met anyone as old as me who didn't drink!(Or so he said!)

No stopping me then; I have worked my way through a lot of drinkies, going through phases of Bacardi and coke; Vodka and lemon; Dubonnet and lemon; Babycham; Cheap white wine; dry cider; beers, including the King of Beers; Guinness, back around then to wines, red or white, but with much more taste, gin and tonic....and I've come full circle now - hardly drink at all these days!

I was 13 or earlier I think but I was just testing or was just having 'a li'l sip' out of curiosity but the first time I got drunk/ wasted when I was already 20 years old. At least now I know my limitations on alcoholic drinks. <*-*>

I was 13, and i was on my family's annual ski trip. My older brother Eric was 17. He and all of his friends drove up to the mountain themselves ( a first time thing for them), and my parents gave them OUR condo while My mom, my dad, and myself had to stay in another one. So one night, after a long day of snowboarding, i went down to where my brother and his friends were. And upon going inside the condo, I think i noticed the smell was off in the room, and i think i saw a couple beer cans on the floor. But, to make a long story short, They thought it'd be cool to let me drink (hard alchohol), and since it was my frist time, after my first mixed drink (it was like kool-aid and captain morgans) i was very drunk. I do not remember the rest of that night. I remember playing Jenga though. Lol.

i started at the age of 12 and now i aman alcoholic and i can admit it, tasting smething so good at that age made menot want to give it up i suggest waiting till your 21

I was breast feed with beer....

In the United States, the most common age of first alcohol use is 15 to 17 - about 40% of people. About 20% of people had their first drink before 15. And another 20% of people had their first drink after 21 or have not drank. That leaves 20% of people who had their first drink between 18 and 20.

These number vary greatly by race in the US. The largest difference is 4.5 years between the Native Americans (mean age of first alcoholic drink: 15.1 years) and Hispanics (19.7 years).

Personally, I first had alcohol in my mouth once at about age 8. However, I spit that out. The first time I swallowed alcohol was on my 21st birthday.

Dad's brother gave my cousin and me some beer when I was age 6 and he was age 5.
