Drinking issues?!

Question: how much would one person have to drink for you to consider them an alcoholic. My husband and I have either 1-2 glasses of bourban or wine a day with dinner (old work habbit from years working in pubs), but I would not consider us alcoholics. Someone that we know drinks a 6 pack of xxxx gold stubbies and 1.5 litres of wine a day...that is what I call an alcoholic - how about you..do you drink much alcohol and what would you class as an alcoholic level??

Don't listen to Quasi. It didn't sound to me like you were being judgemental at all. I don't think it is your responsibility to tell someone they have a drinking problem. People that have a problem don't want to hear that anyway.
Having a couple of drinks with dinner to unwind should not put you in the category of an alcoholic. Most nights during the week my partner and I have 1-2 glasses of red wine while cooking/eating dinner also.
I think the question you have to ask yourself is can you go that whole week without having a drop? If you are honest with yourself and find that you cannot, then that's when you may have a problem.

Alcoholics crave alcohol due to addiction.
Stop being so judgemental and offer help if you suspect you know one.

the definition i got from going through it all-is you can drink all you want of anything as long as it don't change your personality or get you in alot of trouble

Identification of alcoholism may be difficult because there is no detectable physiologic difference between a person who drinks frequently and a person with the condition. Identification involves an objective assessment regarding the damage that imbibing alcohol does to the drinker's life compared to the subjective benefits the drinker perceives from consuming alcohol. While there are many cases where an alcoholic's life has been significantly and obviously damaged, there are always borderline cases that can be difficult to classify.

While experts would agree with the remark about cravings, I beleive they also say that 3 or more drinks a day is another sign. If you know this and were embarrassed to post your real number, you need to get help.

There is a considerable difference between an alcoholic and a binge drinker.

A binge drinker drinks a lot when they want to and can easily go without

An alcoholic has no control over drinking, has an illness, and cant get by during the day without a drink.

You say "Someone that we know drinks a 6 pack of xxxx gold stubbies and 1.5 litres of wine a day." They obviously told you or you easily saw for yourself. Most alcoholics tend to hide their requirements so you dont know.

Actually, I haven't drunk for 15 years because I dont really like it. I have no objection to a wine at a wedding, but prefer juice.

If you can go a week without drinking your normal 'routine' then you probably aren't an alcoholic. If you are unable to go without it ...then you have a serious problem.

I have a friend who died on October 16th from Chronic Pancreatitis...he drank a fifth of vodka in two days. It killed him in less than 2 days. I drink very little...but since his death...I question the damage even a small amount of alcohol can do to the human body. If I were you...I'd worry a little.
