I think some people think that the strong flavor must mean a high alcohol content. Not sure where the thought pattern comes from.

I've never heard of it as a high alcohol content bear... just a good tasting bear, a favorite of the irish.

I think it holds the "world's record" doesn't it??

It doesn't have that reputation. It is strong, meaning dark and flavorful.

4.1% ABV is not a high content, even for idiots who gorge themselves on that pansy fizzy yellow CRAP we take as beer in the US. A decent beer should start at 5%, and 4.1% is lightweight, especially for a stout. A good stout shouldn't even be looked at unless it starts at 6%.

I think just because the Irish are hard drinkers! Also, it is just such a bloody manly beer, you know?
Gotta Love Guiness!

Guinnes "Extra Stout", the bottled version, is much higher in alc than the draught version (about 6% compared to about 4% for the draught). Versions that are sold in the Carribean market can be up to 7% ABV.
