If i like whiskey and rum would I like tequila?!
If i like whiskey and rum would I like tequila?
My hubby says for me to stay away from it. Seriously is it that bad? I mean would it make ill effects on me?

Maybe he had a bad experience with tequila. Tequila will make you sick if you mix it with sweet liquids, like fruit juice or a grapefuit soda like squirt. The tequila you drink should be made in Tequila, in the State of Jalisco, Mexico. Like Whiskey, Tequila is recognized as being from Mexico and specifically from that area, any other thing you buy is probably fake or bogus tequila and therefore, not the real thing...even Japanese and Chinese market some stuff that they claim is Tequila. Tequila is not to be adultered or ruined with any other thing like making coctails, like the ubiquitous margarita (yech!).
Tequila is taken straight from small glasses called caballitos (translates as little horses, which are small glasses about as tall as an index finger and hold a measure of tequila) You must also have sliced lemons, the lemons should be sliced lengthwise. The way to take it is to first sprinkle some salt in the indentation between your index finger and thumb, take a shot of tequila, lick the salt off your hand, take a wedge of lemon and squeeze the juice out with your lips and teeth. Swallow. Tequila can also be taken with a chaser of a prepared Mix called sangrita (translates as little blood) which is a mixture of fruit juices and other ingredients. The best is Sangrita de la Viuda (Widow brand). Sangrita is also used to prepare a cocktail called Vampiro (Vampire, due to the reddish color provided by the sangrita), oh and it is taken in glasses with salt frosted rims. Sangrita is not sweet. In Mexico we keep tequila separate from sangrita and any other sweet mixer.
Taking too much tequila, even if it is a fine brand can give you the hangover of a lifetime, so exercise some moderation. Tequila is a fiery liquid and must be taken with respect. Something plenty of people forget.
Tequila has a nick name (to kill ya)
It makes people crazy...I would stay away from it.
not necessarily! tequila is a bit harsher - & some would jokingly (?) call it "te-kill-ya"...
Cheap Tequila is horrid: nasty taste, bad drunk, and horrible hangover. A good quality repossado is very nice but expect to pay $50 or better for an enjoyable drink. And tell hubby to quit telling you what to do.
I like tequila but I hate rum. Go figure.
hahaha, oh excuse me I was just thinking of all the crazy **** i've gotten into while i've been drunk from tequila...
try it, its harsher than rum but tastey!
Tequila has a very distinct taste. Alot of people like it, I really don't unless it is a really good sipping tequila. The myth about it making you get drunker or act crazier is bunk, it has the same alcohol content as the other liquors. Try it, if you like it, keep drinking it. It will have the same effect as whiskey or rum would have.
try it tequila is good mix it with oj
Oh my good God tequila makes you ten times whatever you're feeling, so you better not be in a bad mood when you drink it or see someone you don't like cause you will cuss them out and possibly do worse, believe me, I've seen it and experienced it. Maybe try a single margarita and see how you feel...well...I don't really know how you would measure it. Just be safe and good luck!!
tequila is not so bad. It all depends on how much you limit yourself. One of the all type favorites is called El Patron Silver. This would cost you anywhere from $45-70 depending on where you get it. Also I enjoy it this other one called Corzo Silver. These are just a few smooth ones ithink you might enjoy
i don't know but i hear its pretty strong stuff.
Tequila is no worse for you than whiskey or rum.
You might like it, seeing as you like whiskey. But tis strong stuff! I'd only recommend drinking a few shots of it. I used to love it, but had one VERY bad experience that put me off for life :S
Im not a drinker but I like whiskey or rum once in a while, tequila on the other hand is effin nasty!!
Tequila is great! people that drink the cheap stuff have given tequila a bad name... because they drink too much of it...
Depending on your taste preferences there are many types of tequila, also the region it comes from and how it is produced will give you different tasting tequilas.
For example Don Julio is 100% blue agave that comes from los altos which will be more fruity and sweet. Casa Noble which is from the valley of tequila will have more spices and will be more complex.
If you like aged products you will prefer a reposado or anejo, but if you are more in to the purity of spirits you will like the blanco.
I would say start with something like Don Julio and then after a while you can graduate to more complex tequilas such as Casa Noble or El Tesoro.
Like some of these people said, cheap tequila is nasty and can lead to hangovers, but so can any cheap liquor.
Look for 100% agave to start with, which means no fillers and sugar added which is what causes hangovers and "crazy" behavior.
Then, if you like whiskey & rum, go for a Reposado (slightly aged) or Anejo (heavily aged) tequila.
These are mellower, more complex, and more in line with a whiskey or a rum flavor profile.
Drinking that in moderation will not make anyone ill or crazy, and is delicious!
The only sure way to know is to give it a try. It is completely different from dark liquors, so give it a shot. Make sure you have a lime and a back up chaser if you need to get the taste out of your mouth. I bet you'll be ok. Your husband probably doesn't want you getting to rowdy so he is trying to keep you away from the good stuff.
