Drool, drool

5-8 grand, 300 pounds 15 years ago was highway robbery in favor of the buyer.

Edit - now that you link the pics, I can see that it is not 250 years old and no it is not worth nearly as much as I had guesstimated.

I'd think twice - I don't believe J&B was in existence under that name back then. You'll need a real expert appraisal, and you won't get that in this forum.

Arnoldis correctin that you will need to have it properly appraised. I can tellyou that I saw a bottle of Glenfiddich 50 yr old for sale in the Calgary airport for $16,995 (which,by the way, worksout to $ 653.65 per shot) However, the Calgary airport also has a lot of Japanese tourists coming through it to go visit Banff National Park, and most of their stuff is overpriced as it is. Goodluck in your search.

Whisky was first bottled in the mid to late 1800's and even then it was rare. Before that the distilleries sold whisky by the cask to the distributors and drinkers filled up their own bottles from the cask.

From the information on Wikipedia it looks like J&B did not start blending until the early 20th Century.

I can't be sure, but your bottle looks like a special edition from the last 20 Years. Johnnie Walker has similar editions that are given to affiliates of the company.

This is not to say that it is not worth a lot though. The Johnnie Walker special editions go for thousands on ebay.

Looking at the pictures, the label says that it was "distilled, blended and bottled to celebrate the 250th anniversary".

This means it is a commemorative bottle, released in 1999 by the company. The bottle also states the whisky is 25 years old, meaning that the real year of production is probably around 1974.

Unfortunately it's impossible that the same was sold 15 years ago, as this whisky had not been bottled by then.

Whisky was not produced by j&b in 1749; in fact I don't think the company was in production until the start of the 19th century. 1749 is the year that Justerini (of J&B) came over to London from Bologna and began work as a wine merchant.

I would warn you not to get your hopes up about prices, (the suggestion of 5-8,000 valuation seems a little high)

How long is a piece of string? I would gusess it depends on provenance and age and vintage etc. I hate whiskey by the way.

Don't be getting Scottish Whisky mixed up with Irish Whiskey.
Whiskey, 'the water of life' is Irish, whereas the Scots make their inferior whisky.
Note the spelling, and be careful in future.

lots...10 grand or so
