What is the best way to learn how to be a bartender?!

Question: The notion has only recently come to my mind to be a bartender. I can’t imagine why that is. I do not drink alcohol at all; never have, and I don’t intend to start. Based upon that, how can I go about learning to become a bartender? Should I find a Bartending School? Which ones are good and low cost? Should I find a restaurant that would be willing to train me? I’d have to start from the very basics as I couldn’t tell you the difference between a cocktail and a martini.
I’m also willing to accept the possibility that this is a totally stupid idea on my part (taking abstinence from alcohol into consideration) and to try to find something else to do with myself.

you may hire on as a server first, to see, if you are cut out for the industry. bartending is hard work, it requires the ability to multi-task efficiently at high speed for hours. check out www.totallyfreebartending.com first. apply as a barback (bartender's assistant) in a small bar/restaurant, to see, if bartending is for you. gain experience by asking the bartenders to train you, when it is not busy, then start working some shifts on your own. once you feel comfortable with your knowledge, move on to bigger/better bars.

bartending can be good because you make good tips- especially at a busy place. But you do have to have a lot of knowledge on alcohol. I tried an online bartending course, but it really didn't help me- I think you'd probably have to be a barback first (restocking beer, cutting pineapples and orange rinds) stuff like that to work your way up to bartender. Good luck!

Well it's a dream, so i think that you could follow it... But i would recommend that you just go to a local, friendly bar and ask them! They will/should know alot of knowledge about all of that stuff. I mean maybe you could do an interview, and yes, you can't do drinks but you could still talk to someone. But if that doesn't work, then you could just sit at the bar. Maybe talk to someone behind the counter and take notes... It might look silly but hey, it's your dream so follow it!!

ASk the bartenders themeselves! My health teacher from last year was once a bartender. He said the tips are amazing and u get to socialize with people, and having a good sense of humor is great too. Working behind the scenes first would b a good idea

you can take a course or you can go online to learn such as from this site. good luck.
