Why do they put the worms in a bottle of tequila in mexico?!

Question: My mom and I were just talking about this and neither of us know why.

Answers: My mom and I were just talking about this and neither of us know why.

Mason had it right, worms are not added to tequila, but rather mezcal. It is actually against Mexican law to add a worm to tequila. However, in the case of mezcal, the worm is added to change the flavor, not remove impurities as some have stated. Also, the maguey worm is a delicacy in Mexico, and can even be found on the menu of restaraunts.

The practice of adding the worm to mezcal originated in 1940 by Jacobo Lozano Paez.

If it's good tequila the worm will die before it hits the bottom. If it's no so good tequila, well eventually the worm dies anyway.

If you looking for a bottle with the worm try Mezacal

It's a way to see who the idiot will be to eat it. lol (j/k) I have no idea but I've heard it has the same effect of shrooms.

the worm lives in the agave plant, and they put it in the bottle as a novelty.

It isn't tequila that gets the worm it is mescal. Mescal is from the area near the city of Oaxaca.

The worm was just a marketing gimmick, probably to make gringos wonder why it was there LOL.

I always heard that the worm eats all the impurities in the alcohol. Thus, when you eat the worm, it's like dropping a hit of acid because of the toxins in it.

idk

Your picture is cute. Thats all I have to say.

watch the movie Urban Cowboy with John Travolta and Scott Glenn and SG explains why they the mexicans have the worm in their tequila

IDK

Actually, the worm is a sign of a low end tequila. Meal worms are not supposed to be in the alcohol, but some low end distilleries leave it in the bottle because the alcohol they produce is harsh and the worm absorbs a lot of the flavors that make the tequila taste bad. If you look at the high end tequilas (Petron, Cazadores, Cuervo, Hornitos......etc.) you will never see a worm because it is the sign of a low grade tequila. Same as with the clarity of the alcohol, the clearer the better. Another sign is the smoothness of the tequila, a good high end tequila should be smooth going down and should leave no after taste.

But if you don't mind the taste of a low end tequila and enjoy seeing a worm, then try El Gusano Rojo. (The red worm)

I gave Izzy a thumbs up

I know it is supposed to have hallucinogenic effects and I've always wanted to try one. Never seen one up here in Seattle though.
