The normal serving size (I think is what you are asking?)

5 ounces of wine. When ordering, you ask for a bottle or a glass

12 ounces of Beer is normal although a pint is 16. When ordering you ask for a bottle, glass, pint, yard..etc (lots of ways to indicate a beer order)

1 1/2 ounces of liquor (called a jigger) is the standard measure in MOST mixed drinks. If you order a shot, this is what you get. If you order a gin and tonic, you will get 1 1/2 oz of gin along with your tonic.

a glass of wine

I would always ask for a glass...

It's a glass of wine.

In the UK, a measure of wine is usually 125ml - that means you get 6 out of a 75cl bottle or 8 out of a litre. In wine bars they often serve double measures (250ml) in a large glass.

floz, fluid ounces. or ml milliletres.
there is thought to be 1 unit in every 8g of alcohol...
but there is thought to be one unit in half a pint of beer, a small glass of wine or a measure of a spirit. although some beers are strong than others and one half pint can contain up to 2.5 units of alcohol! so it really does depend.
pint of beer 568ml
small glas of wine 125 ml
large glass of wint 175 ml
measure of spirit 25 ml /35 in northern ireland.

standard wine pour is 5-6 ounces.

If you are in a high end place the red wine will be served in a larger glass thus making it LOOK like less but it is not. It is just in a larger glass so you can get the boquet or "nose" of the wine. This practice is rather snooty if you ask me. lol

Beer can come in all kinds of sizes. Standard is 12 ounces or 16 for a pint or maybe in a schooner which may or may NOT be larger. Just like the wine above the schooner may just LOOK bigger.

Drinks usually contain 1-2 ounces of the liquor and then whatever they are mixed with. Some times the bar tender have an "Irish Wrist" which means he or she will make the drinks stronger. Or you can order a double which just means twice the liquor.

In a few states (Texas I know) they can only make drinks with a very specific amount of liquor and doubles and an Irish wrist are not allowed by law.

I hope this helps! lol!

Mark is correct. However, if you're talking about alcohol content and a "unit", then 12 ounces of beer = 1 glass of wine = 1 ounce of liquor (even though a shot measure is 1.5 ounces). The average person metabolizes one unit per hour. Hope this helps. You can confirm this on an internet search.

Just to clarify an American pint is 16 ounces an Imperial pint is 20 ounces. Not everything is bigger in America ;)

most wine in restaurants is served in a 5 ounce pour. that is industry standard in the wine biz. here in napa, you can also get 2 ounce "tastes" of wine if you are sampling more than one.

i think one glass of small wine is one unit
