A question about blood alcohol levels and stuff..?!

Question: "Ann comes out of the cinema at 10.15pm and drinks six double vodkas mixed with lemonade before the pub closes at 11pm. She goes home and drinks 2 cups of coffee in front of the T.V and goes to bed at 1am. She gets up at 6.30am, skips breakfast and jumps in the car at 7.15am to drive to work."

ok, i know pretty much nothing about alcohol so please could you help? ann is a 25 year old healthy woman if that matters...

is she in a fit state to be working at a hospital as a nurse?

is she in a fit state after all that to be driving at 7.15am?

why/why not?

i know you can get you blood alcohol levels tested by the police and stuff and theres a certain amount of time you're meant to wait but i'm not sure how long.

No, she's not in a fit state to practive as a nurse as she will still be under the influence of alcohol, but will also be tired with only 5 and a half hours sleep. She could easily make an error that will affect her clinical practice.

and

No, she will still be over the legal limit to drive at that time. An average sized person will process one until of alcohol an hour, if Ann is of "Slight" build then it would be ever less.

If she started drinking at 10:15, by 7:15 she will still have 3 units of alcohol in her blood stream - probably more. This is over the legal limit to drive.

Coffee will have no affect on this.

I honestly have no idea. I would guess that it probably wasn't safe, especially being a nurse.

No offense, but if you're a nurse, you should be able to answer this question. Food absorbs alcohol, skipping breakfast is not good. Also, usually you need about an hour to sleep off one drink. In other words, it takes your body 1 hour to metabolize 1 drink.

So no, you're not in a fit state to be working as a nurse. And no you're not in a fit state to be driving. I'm pretty sure you'd blow over the limit at this point.

However, a lot of this does depend on your body (height and weight).

6 double vodkas in 45 minutes puts a very high level of alcohol into your body. I would like to hope that you're not driving home after this.

If you have more than 35mg alcohol to every 100 mg of blood then you are over the limit and you are breaking the law. [ UK LAW ] That is... You will get banned for anything up to 5 years depending on how much you are over the limit... I think anyone who drinks and drives should be banned for life... bye bye

A shot is 1.5 ounces. She had 2 shots, or 3 ounces in each of six drinks -- or 18 ounces. It would take 18 hours for her to entirely metabolize the alcohol. Plus, she's tired, from only getting 5.5 hours of sleep. She's now drunk, dehydrated (coffee is a diuretic) and tired. She should not be driving, and she should not be working as a nurse. There's no way to tell the BAC unless you do a urine or breathalyzer test, as we don't know her metabolism, height or weight.

well it takes your body 1hr to process 1 oz of alcohol not one hr per drink so that is 6double in 45min and very little food so she is in NO SHAPE to drive work or do any thing no matter how much lemonade is put with it it would take at least 12hrs to be somewhat OK at that passe she could even get alcohol poising

it takes 1 hour to flush out 1 unit of alchol, if im correct, there is 2 units of alchol per shot of vodka, regardless of the lemonade, and drinking coffee them units are still in her system, so basicly all the alchol wouldnt be out of her system till 11.00 that next morning, she would pass a breathaliser, but maybe she shouldnt be working as a nurse, especially if she does this on a regular basis.
