Is it ok to keep unopened wine bottles in fridge?
My fiance bought me a couple of bottles of wine and i didn't know when i'd be drinking them so i put them in the fridge. Will this compromise the flavor of the wine when i do decide to open them?

Hi Roni, I love wine especially Cabernet, with regards to your question, there are two things to remember,
If it's Riesling, Gewurztraminer, White & Red Zinfandel or basically White Wines : It could be stored in your refrigerator.
These wines are better served chilled anyway.
If the wine your fiance gave you are reds (e.g. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Burgundy, Pinot Noir, Shiraz basically most reds) they need to be stored in a room where the temperature remains constant or doesn't get a sudden temp. fluctuation.
BUT the best way for those wine to not spoil...

It really depends on the kind of wine... red wine I would definately NOT put in the fridge.

If it is a Zinfandel or a Chardonnay, yes keep it in the fridge. Reds and some other whites should remain at room temperature though.
Leave white wine in the fridge. Red wine is best stored in a cool dark place. If storing wine for a longer period of time make sure to place it on its side so that the cork keeps wet.
Red wine is supposed to be at room temp, so if it was a red wine you should leave it out. White wine is fine in the fridge.
Tastes is compromised if you don't follow this general rule.
Fine wines cure over their entire life. the older the wine the better the taste.... the cold ambient temp of a fridge slows that down. it would be better to put the unopened bottle in a cabinet. even though the bottle is sealed the cork will still absorb the aroma of whatever surrounds it, and the wine will pick up the flavor of what is in the cork. if you want the wine to taste the same today as it will ten years from now, keep it in the fridge. if you want it to taste better in 10 years, put it in a cupboard, or the top shelf in your pantry. if you don't have an actual wine case.
Make sure the bottles are on their sides(so that the cork is wet and doesn't get moldy)Red wines let it stay out, and make sure it is put inside fridge half-an-hour in fridge.
White wine keep it inside and put it outside half-an hour before consuming.
If your house temperature(esp basement which is cooler) is around 40 to 50' You can store them in the basement for free. and no charge of electricity.

It depends on your taste. If you like your wine chilled then that's fine to keep it in the fridge. If you you like it at room tempter then don't. What matters is how you like it. I know there is all these rules about wine but, those are just suggestions. You are the best judge of your own taste and how you like your wine. It will taste differed chilled or not how do you like it. The most important thing about wine is no air gets into it. So keep it on its side so the quark stays wet. If the quark is moist no air will get in, air is what spoils wine not cold.
I don't know. If the question was about vegetables or how to bbq. I'd be right up front to answer. All wine that I have ever tasted........tasted the same as the one before it. I don't care if it's a 25.00 glass or a 5.00 a bottle. It all tastes the same to me. Wine is wine. I know there is a standard that wine lovers go by..smell (don't they call it aroma?)..taste (don't they swirl it around in their mouth and then spit it out)? After taste (don't they suck their breath between their teeth)? Correct me if I'm wrong about this. I've tried all that. It still tastes like wine to me. Guess I don't have the right taste buds. I'll still give my date flowers..can't go wrong there.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KEEP THEM IN THE FRIDGE,ALTHOUGH THIS WILL NOT HARM THEN ,AS LONG AS YOU LET THEM BREATH FOR HALF AN HOUR WHEN YOU OPEN IT.YOU CAN JUST STORE IT ON ITS SIDE,MAKING SURE THE CORK IS WET.
You store a red wine in the fridge for 4-6 weeks. White wine is the best to keep in the fridge. When storing any wine be sure to lay the bottle at angle with the cork pointing tio the ground. This will stop the cork from drying out and easier to open.
