Red wine is good just about all the time, especially with dinner.
White wine is good just about anytime, especially with lunch, or as an appertif.
Rose is good just about anytime, especially sipping on the deck when it's hot out, or with fruit and cheese.
Sparkling wine is good just about anytime, especially as an appertif or in the hot tub.

Ros'e with friends...Nothing like sitting down with friends for a nice glass of wine :)

Prefer a crisp white wine spritzer! Thank-you. And I don't care if it is a lady's drink. So what? It's refreshing.

I'm a freak for a good zinfandel. I love it because it even tastes great chilled.

The choice of wine should depend on the food that it is accompanying, not the occasion.

I use to be a senior wine consultant for a german wine company.. What I found is there is snobbery in wines.. But in reality I found that whatever a person thought appealing is just fine.. There is such a thing as a wine complimenting chicken, a sweet dessert but mainly there are so many great wines that can be sipped and unexpected times.. In the bathtub for a soak on the porch when company leaves,, Whatever red white, rose, sweet dry just enjoy the wine for what it is...

There is a simple rule that reds should be consumed with red meat, whites with fish, and rosé with roast lamb. However, it is quite 'acceptable' to drink a glass or two of crisp white with fruits on a summer evening. Rosé can be consumed in a similar fashion too. As for reds, it actually depends on the grape variety and the taste/aroma of the particular wine. I often drink a glass or two of red with just cheese while watching TV (unless I feel like having something stronger, which would then be a malt Scotch).
Try different wines with different accompaniments, and see which appeals to your palate and mood.

For a white wine i enjoy one glass of wine with my dinner a California chardonnay and for California red wines i enjoy merlot and cabernet sauvignon.
