Answers:
You can buy the right packaging materials at any shipping store. Many stores with office supply departments also sell such items. Staples too. Pack it well and use lots of foam to protect against impact. Just a note, it may be illegal to mail alcohol, so you might need to be careful when asked about contents.

what I would do is wrap the bottle in bubble wrap, then put the bottle in a box. Put that box in a bigger box, and fill the area between with packing peanuts or some kind of cushioning material so that the box in the middle is totally protected.

There are also pack and ship places that should sell packaging to do it, too, if you prefer.

Why not go on to the Royal Mail web site.
They have a page specifically related to this.
And Post Offices probably sell the required article.

try the safe store

The local UPS or Fed EX
OOps U-Haul

I shipped 10 bottles of home made liqueur one holiday and didn’t loose a one.

I found a box at u-haul store that was more than two inches larger that the bottle. Also a supply of packing popcorn to fill around the bottle. Next the key was a can of expanding spray foam insulation from a home improvement store.

I rapped the bottle in several layers of plastic. Filled the bottom of the box with 1 inch of popcorn, and sprayed the top with a 1 / 4 inch layer of foam. Then I stuck the plastic covered bottle in the middle. Next filled 1 / 3 more with popcorn, and another layer of foam. Repeated till the box was full. Tape the box shut ASAP.

The foam continues to expand and holds the bottle in very tight. The only complaint was in the last box I used extra foam to finish the can and it was difficult to get the bottle out.
