What is the best way to go about becoming a bartender?!

Question:

What is the best way to go about becoming a bartender?

I have decided I need a second job - and I've always been good with mixing drinks...and I love the nightlife!

You'll come across many ads for bartending schools in magazines and newspapers, but there are other ways that I would recommend to save money and possibly even your reputation. To be honest, as a person who has bartended off and on for many years to help pay for college, it is a great way to make money.

I'd start by working at a small bar who is willing to take you on as a non-experienced bartender (this may be rare) or at a place that will start you off as a barback, with likelihood of a promotion to bartender. Once you get your foot in the door, it will be easier for you to learn the trade from one of the bartenders already working in your bar.

Make sure you learn many drinks from a good bartending book before you try to bartend, though. This kind of stuff is pretty easy to learn on your own and you don't always need a lot of help to get the trade.

Another option is to start off working as a caterer that works mainly bartending type events. This will get you some bartending skills in the catering world, which can also get your feet wet.

Best of luck!

best bet is to start regularly going for drink at a smaller bar during earlier hours when not many people are around. strike up conversations with the manager and continue doing this for a week or two. after you know them for a bit, ask for a job. then try to move to a larger bar in 6 months or so. this is better than starting off as a bar back because you could wait up til a year to get promoted.

buy a book and study the different drinks and then figure out where you want to work and then go there and tell them what you want and offer to "volinteer" to show them what you can do.. good luck... or you can go to school for bartending..

You will have to get your bartending liscence before you can bartend anywhere. You can go to your local tech school, its a 4 hour course or you can do it online. Any other questions just let me know.

1. get a job at as a waitress in a chain restaurant like fridays or chilis.

2. ask the bartenders about all the drinks you sell to customers and learn about the drinks (along with beers and wines)

3. get to know the regulars (especially the bar regulars)

4. show up to work on time and work hard.

5. show interest in bartending with the bartenders and managers

show off your boobs to the manager and do the nasty with him if he promises you a job.

go to a bar and tell them that u want to learn to be a bartender, go when its not season and they will teach u. they want to avoid bad habits so they will teach u
