What is a good quality and affordable Silver Tequila?!

Question:

What is a good quality and affordable Silver Tequila?

A few months ago, I tried some great tequila and I would like to find the same or similar. The name may have been Petrone? It was clear(silver?) and did not have a nasty aftertaste or burn and I really enjoyed it. I don't want to spend more than $50 on a bottle. What are some quality brands? I was reccomended Don Julio Blanco, I am also interested in trying Don Julio Silver Tequila. Has anyone tried this Don Julio or Petrone?

Yes, I will be sipping it, not mixing it. And yuck.. Jose Cuervo? That's why I love the silver stuff- no nasty taste

Unfortunately, I didn't see the bottle, I was in a restaurant. How much would a bottle of Petrone, (Petron??) cost me?

Yes indeed...Patron and Don Julio are both solid Tequilas, but both will run near the $50 range...how are you drinking it? If your sipping it, you'll want to go for the good stuff. If you're blending it up in a margarita, don't bother wasting good tequila...and for the love of God, please don't drink Jose Cuervo under any circumstances.

Petron seems to be a favorite for tequila. It's best to balance yourself out not to drink all night. Say if you were drinking and need a boost then take a shot or two.

margarittaville isnt too bad

I think patron is what you drank. Was the bottle the shape of a square? if so its patron. Its expensive but its worth it. Don julio is good too, but I prefer patron.

How bout Cabo Wabo?

Just like any brand there is an inexpensive type and very expensive type. Silver tequila is the least aged and usually the most harsh, good for mixed drinks. Reposado is next, aged a year or less, not bad for shooting. Anejo is aged the longest and is usually the smoothest, one year plus. The size and type of wood the barrel is made from has plenty to do with the taste. There are hundreds of brands of tequila. I personally don't want my hair dresser making my tequila. Patron is made by Paul Mitchell. It's the McDonald's of tequila. People who think its good usually don't drink much tequila. The best Tequila out is actually made by Jose Cuervo I'm not talking Especial or the flavored stuff. The best tequila made is "Reserva De La Familia" translated "The families private reserve. This tequila is aged in a 50 gallon oak barrel for 7 years. The color is dark, like whiskey. The scent is sweet, like Cognac and the taste is heavenly. The bottles are hand blown and each bottle is hand numbered You sip it from a brandy snifter. It's not cheap and you can't find it ever where but when you do it's worth it, trust me!

when you are looking for a quality tequila what you want to see on the label is "100% blue agave" that is the highest quality meaning no water or caramel is added (Jose Cuervo gold). If you are going to be sipping the tequila you really want a reposado or anejo because they are less harsh and mellowed after aging. Herradura, Don Julio, Milagro and Patron all make excellent tequila and they all run about $50 bottle. Cuervo makes a "tradicional" reposado 100% agave for about half that, so try that first.
