What are good wines?!

Question:

What are good wines?

Answers:
Depends on your taste. Below are my favs:
Alexander Valley Sin Zin (Zinfandel)
Saintsbury Reserve Pinot Noir
Rosemount GSM (Grenache Syrah Mouvedre)
Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon
Conundrum (by Caymus Vineyards...white wine)
Wente Estate Chardonnay
Chateau La Louviere Blanc (A French Chardonnay)
Montes Alpha M
Montes Folly Syrah
Clean Slate Riesling

Riesling and Guertzenminer are good "sweet" wines
Shiraz is a good red wine
Pinot Grigo is a good white wine

I use Marsala wine (sweet) to cook with pasta, chicken

Pinot Noir is a great red. So is Shiraz.
Gerwurstraminer and Lexia are good whites.

The ones that do charity work and pray reguarly.

Bordeauxs from 1982 are considered some of the best. Although I recommend the 2000 vintage if you don't want to break the bank

Sometimes a Cabernet, Merlot or Riesling.

Most Chilean reds are realy good also.

Don't overlook Cotes du Rhone Villages wines. These are usually "field blends" of different grape grown on the same plot and Syrah based. Good to great quality at moderate prices and great food wines that go with most everything.

On the white side pouilly fume is a great general purpose wine and won't break the bank. If you like something more acid try New Zealand sauvignon blanc or Sancerre. All great.

Just be sure to buy from a reputable merchant who actually tastes the wines he is selling. Interestingly Costco does a great job at low prices but many big retailers buy on price points and you get low prices but low relative quality.

Try a wide variety and learn what you personally like. There are a lot of very good wines out there under $20 but they will have little press and no ads. If it is advertised it probably is not as good as others of the same type and price.

honestly i would have to go with Cakebread it is a really good winery, they have merlot, any white. a little pricey but if you want something has a rich flavor this is a good wine. i also like Cline they make an awesome Syrah for 9.99$ which you cannot beat.

Good wines are whichever either balance or enhance the flavours of the foods or special purposes (eg: as an aperitif or a dessert stand-alone) you match them with. As such, one can find outstanding wines at $US 3-4 / £ 2 and awful wines at $US 100 / £ 190, and vice-versa.

As told to me by the vintner at a winery: "whichever ones you like."

Try some - you will like some and not like others. Other people will feel differently about the ones you like and dislike. Good. Enjoy it. Wine is fun. Oh yeah, drink responsibly, blah blah blah.
