What are some good mixed drinks, and how do you make them?!

Question:

What are some good mixed drinks, and how do you make them?

Answers:
Well... you have your basics like Rum and Coke (Cuba Libre), Vodka and Cranberry (Cape Cod), Vodka and OJ (Screwdriver). Vodka with Cran AND OJ (Madras). Your best bet when you're fist testing your mixology skills is to keep it simple. Think 1 booze with 1 mixer. As you taste more and more drinks (whoa things are spinning!) you will decide what YOU think is a good drink. Note that your idea of the "BEST" drink will change over and over again. If you have a blender you can begin to experiment with Daquiris!!! 1 part Rum 3 parts Sweet and Sour mix and 2 parts fruit (bananas, watermelon, strawberries, papayas, etc...) blend with ice and a table spoon of sugar then stick a straw in it and go to the pool. There are fruit liquers too. They're most often reffered to as Schnapps and come in all kinds of flavors (Rootbeer Schnapps in a light beer will taste just like Dr. Pepper). Vodka is quickly being taken over by fruit flavors so your local liquor store will be overflowing with fun ideas. If you want to try to make Margaritas you'll need 1 part Tequila 3 parts Sweet and Sour (or Marg mix) and 1/2 part Triple Sec (made from Oranges). Though this drink is known the world over I suggest you step into a couple bars and let the pros pour you their favorite till you get a taste for them. Margaritas (like Maritinis) are an art form and everyone can make a bad one. Few can make a GREAT one! My favorite includes Raspberry liquer and it is YUMMMMY!
Finally I'll leave you with one of MY favorites,
1 oz Malibu
1 oz Stoli Vanilla
1 oz Blue Curacao (Blue Triple Sec)
over ice. Fill glass with Sprite and Sour mix. Top glass with an Orange slice and a splash of Cranberry!! I call it the Purple Halo (you'll see why) and it's a QUICK way to a buzz.
Good luck, try to be safe and don't forget to have a glass of water every third round (your body will thank you).

Washington Apple

- Equal parts Crown Royal, Sour Apple Puckers, cranberry juice. Layer Crown, then juice, top with Puckers. My sister's favorite. You can also substitute vodka for the Crown.

One of my fav's is Steel Reserve and some sort of fruit drink, could be straight orange juice or maybe even a more thick fruity tasting drink. The idea is to hide the taste of the malt liquor and come out with something totally pleasing but with a killer punch! Just right for those heated Cali daze! A total take on the classic Mamosa.

Cosmopolitans are great
2 parts vodka (Absolut Citron is my fav)
2 parts cranberry juice
1 part cointreau

Shake with ice, drain into glass, and garnish w/ a lime wedge.

Wilderberry Schnapps and Tropical blend V8 friut juice.... goes down like kool-aid, kicks u in the pants!

I'm a bartender and serve a drink we call "Bare Necessity."
1 ounce peach schnapps
1 ounce crown royal
Fill with Red Bull.
The real name for this is "Shaved *****."

The Panty Dropper

2 parts Sprite
1 part. Pink Lemonade
1 part Vodka

This is not spam, I promise. This drink is called a Porchclimber. The Recipe:
6 pack of beer (Any Canadian Pale Ale is preferred)
1 pint Rye Whiskey
1 can pink lemonade mix (do not add water)

Mix together in a pitcher. No shaking or blending for obvious reasons.

When first introduced to this drink when in university I thought it was just about the stupidest idea I'd ever heard. Just hearing what was in it almost made be puke. However, the things actually taste pretty good and if you do the math, they are pretty potent. These are drinks for getting hammered, not just sitting around sipping.

My three personal faves are;
(1) Black Russian : 1 1/2 oz Vodka get the strong stuff and
not the el cheapo.
1 oz Kahlua over ice

They go down smooth as silk but be careful cause they're just straight booze.

(2) Rusty Nail: 1 1/2 oz Scotch (again something decent)
1 1/2 oz Drambuie (Scotch liqueur)
Same disclaimer as the Black Russian.

(3) The traditional drink of the 2nd Nova Scotia Highlanders : its called the "Flaming A.r.s.e.h.o.l.e." all it is is a big glass of Drambuie and a match. Light it up, slam the booze, and try to spit fire back into the glass.

You would obviously have to be selective with your guest list cuz these drinks are clearly intended for two fisted power drinking and not some frou frou garden party.

Fuzzy Navel!!

1/2 Peach Snapps
1/2 orange juice

SO GOOD!!!

Everything you need to know about how to mix and with what. It even has a "my bar" where you put in what alcohol/mixers etc you have and it will pull up recipes that you can make with those ingredients. Quite handy. :)
