What is the purpose of straining a mixed drink?!

you usually strain a drink that does not have in it....martinis, shots, etc

You strain it if you don't want ice in it. If you wanted ice in it, you would either pour it straight from whatever you mixed it in into the glass, or you would pour and mix it directly over the ice in the glass you will be serving it in.

Most of the time you only strain mixed shots or martinis. I don't know why you would strain a drink like Sex on the Beach or a baybreeze or something like that...in my experience those are generally served with ice...it isn't even a question.

When you are chilling a drink you add ice and shake then strain only to chill. You strain it quickly so that the drink is cold but remove ice so that it is not watered down.
