What is the best wine you ever tasted, under $30 a bottle?!
What is the best wine you ever tasted, under $30 a bottle?
I had the Rodney Strong Russian River Valley Merlot in 1992, served by Rodney himself. Mmmmmmmmmm.
Answers:
Spain and Italy have the best cheap wines in my humble opinion. (don't hate me for that) 2002 Cavalchina Bianco is a cheap favorite of mine? It rated quite high too as I recall.
was he naked? mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Merlot and Pinot Noir (wines you have to have balls to drink, none of that sissy white stuff)
Gato Negro 3.99
Barefoot Cellars 4.99
Turning Leaf 5.99
I'm a drinker, not a snob. Remember, you can't have just one!
Vitiano Italian wine. It's a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet grapes. It's one of my favorites. Customers seem to love it too.
Mumms demi-sec. Only about $19-$22 a bottle. Yummy!
Ménage à Trois Rosé California Rose Wine
Absolutly the best!!!!!
(We always keep 2-3 bottles in the house).
Best part - it's about $12-$15.00
Trader Joe's has some great wines for $2.99 a bottle. There's only 1 Trader Joe's wine store in NY State and its in Manhattan. A friend drives in and buys cases of it.
As far as white would be Louis Jadot Pouilly Fusse and always an enjoyable red would be George Dubueuf Beaujolais Village. Most wine's that I do enjoy are under $30 I'm not real big on Bordeaux, Just never acquired the taste for them.
It's a bit over $30...by a couple bucks but Pelissero Barbaresco Nubiola (italian) is great!
Try Panther Creek Pinot Noir from Shea Vinyards in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. It's between $20-$30 a bottle. Good stuff.
I love Alexander Valley Sin Zin Zinfandel.
It's a great wine for the price.
2 Buck Chuck (both Zin & Cab)
Monte Xanic Chenin Colombard (only available in Mex, though...)
Red Wines- Glass Mountain, both the Cab and the Merlot. On sale for 6.99 but can go as high as 11.99 on a bad day. I take these camping and call them my bon-fire wines.
Washington State has been surprising me with some of their reds as well!
For White wines- I love the Michigan Rieslings. Peninsula Cellars took the Global Gold Medal a couple of years ago- also try Black Star Farm line of Rieslings-they are awsome!
Anything Ravenswood....No Wimpy Wines! For REALLY cheap and good....Barefoot Cellars. Dancing Bull Zinfandel is pretty damn good too.
there is a small vineyard in N.C. that is called Carolina Sweets. they make all sorts of berry, and fruit wines. and yes they are "real" wines. not like arbor mist.
they have great flavor and are around $15.00 a bottle. my fave is the blackberry.
Asti Riccadonna. Soft, sweetish, sparkling white wine. Beautiful drop. Interestingly shaped bottle too. But unfortunately, although I love white wine, it doesn't love me, lol. One glass and I'm sick for a week, lol. If u like a good white, u must try it.
I love trying local wines, and my current favorite is Mountain White from Linganore Winecellars in Mount Airy, MD. It is fresh and fruity, but not overly sweet. At about $10 a bottle, it is a bargain.
