Challenge yourself to stay sover, if you don't you are a weakling more.

think about the damage you do to ur family...how u make them feel, think that you'd do anything not to hurt them or to see u destroy yourself

lots and lots of sex.

do you have kids or a spouse? thats motivation

read the statistics, after you see how many people die for alcohol related reasons, ull never want to drink again

My family. I always play the tape all the way through. I remember the looks on my families faces. Letting them down is something I don't want to do. Also, I like the life I have now!! I wouldn't give up a minute of my sobriety for a second of before.. ;)

I would guess if someone was staying sober that the only reason was because of negative consequences. In that regard looking back on the negative things that got the person to quit drinking would work.
What I'm trying to say is if the person looked at all the negative things that had happened in their life due to
alcohol. At least they could realize that they were also giving welcome to the same negativity again. If they wanted to still drink after that it's their choice. It's always all of our choice.

remembering that if I ruin my health and kill myself, it's my family and friends that will suffer.

for me it was remembering how alcohol made me into someone i didn't want to be. and all the money i spent in a bar as oppose to spending it on things i wanted to do for fun. like jet skiing! you should probably change your environment as well. be around a support group/ people who enjoy living life as oppose to living life around booze! good luck don give up.

think of all the nights with your head hung in the toilet.. or that pit in your stomach feeling that you have all of the next day.. or that massive headache from drinking too much..

I am what one would call a recovering alcoholic,,but a functioning alcoholic at that..five dui's later I found myself in prison..I said what the hell am I doing ??a person must make the choice not to drink, attend AA meetings ,find other people to hang with that dont drink,,,people ,places and things,,stay away from people who drink, stay away from places that serve it [temptation] and try to understand the things that brought you to drink to begin with,,hang in there it does get easier

The fact that alcoholics have truly lousy and wasted lives and shattered relationships.
With everybody.
Especially themselves.
.

Get in shape. Every time I have gotten in good shape in my life, the urge to drink has tapered off drastically.

working the steps has lead me to look at life in a totally different way. i don't waste time blaming others for my issues & shortcomings. enjoying life passionately motivates me everyday to stay sober, so i can help others do the same.///as for "staying away from places, people, things" that's not in any big book i ever read, it is an urban myth - i got & stayed sober making & serving alcohol. if i had to stay away from places, where there is alcohol, i couldn't even go to a gas station, or grocery store. i can go freely, where ever i please, as long as i keep spiritually fit.

Your family & your future.
