I really want to impress my wine loving boyfriend this x-mas, he doesn't like whites or pinots any suggestions!

Question: I agree with 12 days. It is difficult for us to answer now knowing what he likes.

If you want something impressive, I can list a few, depending on your budgets.

$300+ - go for the top end stuff such as Screaming Eagle ($500 from vineyard, $2000 retail), Chateau Petrus ($600 on average year, $1000 or more in good year), Chateau Le Pin ($1000 on average year). Probably not the best idea.

$100+ - get a nice French Bordeaux such as Lafite or Mouton Rotheschild or La Tour or Haut Brion or Margaux. Or you can go for Californians such as Joseph Phelps Insignia ($160) or Revana ($120) or Caymus Special Selection ($130) or Shafer Hillside Select ($175). Guarantee that he will be impressed.

$40-100 - I would go for some Californian wines such as Jordan ($45-50), Caymus Cabernet ($55), Joseph Phelps Cabernet ($45). You can try some more difficult to get wines such as Pride ($40-80), Paloma Merlot ($60), Robert Foley Charbono ($40), or Showkat ($60).

$25-40 - much easier and much more reasonable range. You have a wide selection of wines from everyday wine to decent bottles of champagne. Try Markham Cabernet ($30), Frank Family Cabernet ($35), V. Sattui Cabernet ($25), Heitz Cabernet ($35). Go to your local wine store and they can help you with this.

Less than $25 - probably not a good idea to buy wines. Buy wine related items such as wine glasses or wine openers. Please don't give out cheap wine for your wine loving boyfriend.

A few tips - you can get wines at Sam's and Costco's for cheaper prices; you can get nice bottle bags at dollar stores; be sure to keep the wine cool before giving to him; and this is a good opportunity to see what he likes so you can get something even better for him next year - remember, one good deed deserves another

Good luck

Yellow Tail from Australia has many impressive reds for great prices. My favorite is their Shiraz.

ok!! if you whant to impres your lover don"t go to far try a nice blend wine {italian for instance} just make sure to get somthing that will adjust to your budget don"t go to highly on the pryce the best wines are from tuscany as far as i'm concern

When you say Pinot, do you mean Pinot Noir or Pinot Grigio? If he is into reds, try a Beringer Knight's Valley Cabernet Sauvignon... If Shiraz, any of Penfold's upper level reds. If you likes Pinot Noir...try a better quality Pinot Noir produced in the Russian River Valley or possibly Oregon.

check out Evolution, from Oregon, they have great reds...Avalon, Joel Gott, great Cabs!!!

we know him even less than you do, it's not really a good idea to ask us what he will like and not like
