What is the best whiskey with bite?
My crystal decanter is filled (currently low) with Makers Mark. I am a man of means and have tried many whiskeys but am curious what my fellow epicures recommend.
I drink my whiskey neat...and I enjoy the bite.
Answers:
Try a small batch such as Booker's, or Basil Haden. The Jim Beam Company four of varying proof and flavor profiles. Wheated bourbons like Markers Mark tend to be more on the smooth side rather than aggressive.
Old Crow is the best kicker. Or if you know someone with moonshine that'll bite ya and how.
I happen to like Knob Creek
knob creak easily
I don't know the name of the whiskey, but it is in a bottle with horses on the top, very expensive and people I know even save the tops for the different horses. I think it is Blantons or Brantons, check with you local store, here in the south we have in our local liquor store.
Try some Old Grand Dad
I'm not the biggest whiskey fan, but I have to agree with a few previous posters on Knob Creek.
Also, I think the best-tasting whiskey is Jameson. It's smooth, but has a nice bite.
I daresay, sirrah, that you might enjoy Bulleit bourbon--I find it a bit rougher than Makers but very tasty and it comes in a very nice bottle. When I'm hard up for cash, I look for a bottle of Old Overhold rye. Other than that, if your looking for a bite I suggest one of those terrible bottom shelf blended scotches, Cutty Sark, Chivas, or Johnny Walker Red, which I liken to the beverage equivalent to a box of used nails and broken glass--the kind of whiskey one gives to aquaintances whom one dislikes as a means of getting them off the trail of one's stash of single malts.
Neat, by the by, is the only way to drink whisky. Though, if you like a bite, steer clear of Jamesons or Bushmills or the other Irish, which are so smooth as to be akin to drinking your own mother's milk as a babe. Irish whiskey is dangerous whiskey because it goes down so readily.
My favorite bourbon is Blanton's.
But my real favorite is whisky (spelled without the "e") as in single malt scotch and that would be the Laphroaig 10yo cask strength at 55.7% alc/vol, hold the water!
George Dickel is a very nice sipping whiskey
Tullamore Dew if you like irish
Makers mark is my favorite
if you can afford it buy it.
jack will always be the best
well, i checked my cabinet. is scotch whiskey whiskey or scotch? anyway, my husband drinks Glenfiddich scotch whiskey or The Glenlivet scotch whiskey. i just drink beer, but he says they are smooth...what the heck does that mean?
oh, and the price is 40 dollars a fifth(i think its a fifth)750ml
As cliche as it is, Jack Daniels and Johnny Walker seem to have the best bite, IMO. I enjoy Canadian Club the most, but I mix it with coke...so...
