Whisky Tasting?!

Question:

Whisky Tasting?

Here are a couple of Speysides and a couple of Islays for you to compare:

Speysides : Monkey Shoulder vatted (or pure) malt 40%
Aberlour a'Bunadh 12YO single malt sherry finish 56.9%

Islay : Bruichladdich 13YO Reciota finish single malt 46%
Bowmore 18YO single malt 40%

Can you rate them in order of preference?

Happy tasting :-)

Answers:
I've never heard of Monkey Shoulder but personally I would rate the Islay malts higher than Speyside. I prefer the more complex depth of flavour in the Islay whiskies and find the Speyside ones to be a more 'straightforward' in flavour but less satisfying to drink. I know people who prefer things the other way round and don't like the strong flavours of the Islay malts.

I should give this to my brother-in-law, he is always away whiskey tasting and an avid collector, he would love this!!

i wish they were sitting in front of me
"aye, i love me whiskies!"
i'd choose the islay as first
i like the briney
but the deep peaty stuff is great as well
depends on the mood
and the taste of the cigar your drinking with it

no,but i would give it my best shot if you send me a bottle of each.

I've tried Bowmore but didn't like it, too earthy but I tend to drink either Irish Whisky or Jack Daniels. Find Irish a lot smoother but you can't beat the old sour mash!

I thought that was an invitation! I'm depressed now. I just like any scotch - single malts better.Irish is too sharp. American whiskies - like Jack Daniels too much tannin or something. southern comfort is nice - but sweet. Send me a bottle of each and I'll give you a better answer next week.

I'm not big on the River Spey varieties. They are fine, but I like Scotch that fights back.

For me, Bowmore and Bruichaddich are among the calmest of the Islay malts.

I love Ardbeg most. I have a 1978 that I've never opened. The bottle is 6 years old and starting to worry me. Soon, I'm going to crack it open. I also have a little bit of 1974 Signatory bottling (21yo) that became famous in my neighborhood. I called it, "The Scotch that puts your tongue to sleep."

Cuold olny maek it trhouhg teh first threee bottels. Geesh I'm giong to be sikc.

Bowmore 18YO - Its ok

The Glenlivet 18YO - Good

Highland Park 18 YO- Good

I think any single malt 12YO or yonger has not matured yet.
