Why is Absinthe banned in U.S.?!

Question: Absinthe is not exactly banned in the US. Beverages containing a chemical that is found in most absinthe are banned in the US.

There is a new absinthe on the market that is produced without any of the banned chemical remaining in the final product, thus making it legal for sale in the US. It is called Absente, and is still be hard to find in a lot of markets.

I have yet to try it, but have heard it is quite similar to European absinthe.

absinthe

[AB-sinth] Reputed to be an aphrodisiac, absinthe is a potent, bitter liqueur distilled from wormwood and flavored with a variety of herbs. It has a distinct anise flavor and is 68 percent alcohol (136 proof). Absinthe is usually diluted with water, which changes the color of the liqueur from green to milky white. Because it's considered habit forming and hazardous to health, absinthe is prohibited in many countries and was banned in the United States in the early 1900s.
