What is an inexpensive, but great red wine to serve with steak?!

Question:

What is an inexpensive, but great red wine to serve with steak?

Answers:
Go with Redwood Creek Pinot Noir. It goes really well with steaks, I just had it a couple of nights ago, and the price is usually right too.

Source(s):
Dont go with 2 Buck Chuck, it is cheap, but its swill. I drink it on occasion, just to have wine on the table on an off night, but its really, really not good.

Chilean merlot.

I have found ST. RITA, a red wine from Chili, to be good. And I have found it for sale in Ohio, Belgium, California, and even FRANCE!

By the way, I did not read the first answer before I typed this. We both recommended wine from Chili as good and about 4 euro = $5,50 a bottle.

Liebfruamiltch it's good.

Shiraz or Pinot Noir

Trader Joe's Charles Shaw (3 buck Chuck [well, technically it was the 2 Buck Chuck, but prices have risen]) Shiraz is an excellent value for literally $3 and is a really good wine.

yellowtail pinot grigio

I love the River Guide Red, a blend of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. You can it it online for around $20.

Francis Coppola cabernet sauvignon. It's about $15.00 a bottle and smoooooooth.

I agree with the Charles Shaw recommendation, but I'd try the Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. Also, you might consider a Mondavi Merlot or Zinfandel. Depending on your price range, another "must try" is a Sangeovese (my favorite is Nocetto) or the Barbera. Good Luck!

Robert Mindovia it is saltgrass steakhouse #1 red wine sold with steak.... and it is only about $8 a bottle at the store

belnniger white Zinfandel

Lindemins Bin 50. It's affordable and yummy.

If you live near a Trader Joe's, go there and ask the wine staff. They have some great buys. (I would stay away from the organics though - ugh - very disappointing, I poured out 2 bottles.) Thumbs up on the Chilean, some great choices there. Aussie wines also good last year. Personal fave this week: Klinker Brick 2004 Lodi Zin, also fond of Cardinal Zin (forget the winery), both about $12 - 15/bottle. Any decent Merlot or pinot ok with steak. SKIP THE LIEBFRAUMILCH. :-p Sheesh, icky-sweet white wine with steak? I am no wine snob but puh-lease, it's not nice to tease new wine lovers!

Go to winespectator.com. They rate wines and generally have descriptions of wines in all price ranges that go well with certain foods.

The quick and easy answer is a Cab.

You can't go wrong with Yellowtail Merlot.

I recommend a - Carbernet or Merlot.

( i dilute reds sometimes also ..whatever ! )

Talus Pinot Noir is good with steak and only about $7 a bottle

If you have your steak rare: Cabernet Sauvignon.
If you have it well done: a glass of milk is all you deserve.
