What is your favorite varietal of red wine?!

Question:

What is your favorite varietal of red wine?

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Bordeaux, Chianti, Zinfandel?

My favorite is Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. I recently had Dancing Bull Zinfandel with spicy mexican food and it was a great pairing. I was pleasantly suprised.

Answers:
Red Diamond Shiraz! Not as bold as merlot. kinda light in taste but packs a punch and smells deliscious and light. only about $14 too! This is the first shiraz I ever tasted though. but i like.

MERLOT no question

Not sure what a Varietal is?

malbec is my favorite red wine.

Merlot with everything even bacon and eggs

Let's review the definition of varietal. A varietal is a single type of grape.

Bordeaux is not a varietal. Red wines from Bordeaux are a blend of up to five different varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

Also, Chianti is not a varietal. It is the name of the region in Italy that produces this wine. Chianti is usually 100% made from a varietal called Sangiovese.

All the red grape varieties are great! I actually prefer a certain style in a red wine, although I enjoy fruit & spice, I also like the earthy or rustic characteristic that is found in some red wines. South African & Chilean reds have that taste that I enjoy.
