I heard a stat the other day that was around 60%. Slightly higher if you poll just men.

Are you talking about the people that drink regularly? Or just people that will have a drink every now and then. Or do you mean both. If you mean regulars and now and then people I say 65% maybe.

Did you know that 75% of all statistics are made up on the spot? I'd say that 80% of Americans drink. Far fewer if you mean Americans who drink regularly.. say 40%.
