Does anyone know whether there is any sugar in whisky, if so how much?!

Question:

Does anyone know whether there is any sugar in whisky, if so how much?

Answers:
yes there is. it depends on how the whisky was made or processed. but it usually has very little amt.

A couple of web pages agree that Scotch whisky contains no
carbohydrates, and since sugar is a carbohydrate, that means zero
grams of sugar.

Also, a past Google Answer quotes the Cyberdiet web site as showing
zero carbohydrates for distilled spirits in general.

There is no sugar in whisky. Whisky is made by fermenting the dried spruts of barley which contain sugar. The sugar is converted to alcohol by the yeast and the resulting alcohol rich liquid is then distilled to remove the alcohol from the liquid. Then part of the liquid is put back into the alcohol to give it taste. The completed alcohol is then kept in oak casks which have previously been used to store sherry. the casks were disinfected by burning the inside of the cask. This is where the distinctive oak and sherry flavours and the dark colour come from. Alcohol is given off from the cask reducing the alcohol content of the whisky over time. One the whisky is bottled no further changes take place. The age of the whisky is the amount of time spent in a cask.

i don't believe there is any sugar in whisky. unlike rum which is made from sugar cane, whisky is made from grains, so there shouldn't be any significant amount of sugar unless it's been added.

There is no sugar as such in whiskey. It usually gets transformed to alcohol during fermentation. In fact, most distilled liquors do not contain carbohydrates, n sugar is a carbohydrate. That means 0 grams of sugar.

Yes it did at one time in the process ,whiskey had sugar. But in the cooking process the sugars were fermented and cooked out. Hence no carbs.

per 25g - 52 cals

Sugar plus yeast = alcohol
The sugar is in the grains wheat barley or what ever is in the mash. The fermentation leaves no sugar. and they sure would not use refined cane or beat sugar .

none... sugar is mainly for rum

The fermentation and distilling process removes all sugar, but some whiskies (and brandies, rums etc.) use caramel to colour their product.

My tip if you are avoiding sugar is to avoid the cheapest - go for single malts.
