I have a bottle of Ballantines Scotch Whisky that is about 30 years old, is it still good, can I sell it?!

Question: Scotch whisky, once bottled, does not age anymore.
7 year old scotch remains 7 years old in the bottle even after 30 years.
It should still be quite drinkable as long as it is still sealed properly.

As far as selling the bottle, make sure you are not violating any alcohol sales laws. But if you find the right buyer you should do well with it.

If it's unopened then yes it's still good. Can you sell it? Sure you can sell about anything if you have the right buyer.

As long as you have never opened it and broke the seal, then yes, it's still good. Alcohol only gets better with age. I am sure you will have no problem selling it, and probably for top dollar. Check sites like ebay or some auction houses in your area to see if there is anything similar out there and what you might expect to get for it. Also, spread the word amongst family and friends and I'm sure you'll have a buyer in no time. Good Luck.

Hard liquor like that lasts virtually forever. The website listed below gives a good run-down of how to store alcohol and how to tell if it's bad. Basically, like people say, store it in a cool, dark place with the lid on tight and it will even outlive YOU. If you've opened it already, it won't be affected that much, but with time, it might take the kick out of it (though I don't think rot is something to worry about).

And this is all good news because that bottle of tequila I bought my mom is always there on the shelf at her house, untouched except by me when I come to visit.

You could try selling it, but I don't know what that bottle could be worth. Good luck either way.

YOu can try to sell but good luck. If the bottle is in really great condition you may get something for the bottle, but the booze is.........how can I say this nicely.........Not very good to begin with. The previous answerer was right that it stopped aging when it went into the bottle. So not very good to begin which plus age makes it still not very good. But on the bright side you could crack it open grab some ice and get blasted.

I just got a bottle of the same stuff from my boss at the bar which I work. It was from when his dad owned the bar in the 60's. We decided to try it out and it was horrible.

I think it's still good as long as it's not cloudy or has visible particles in it.
As to selling it, my mother has a bottle of 1928 port since 1968.
I called Sotheby's and they would be glad to take it for auction, however we decided to keep it and try it when my mother (86 years old) feels like it. She'll then call me (I'm in Mexico, she's in Holland), I'll take the plane and try the bottle with her as a farewell. The whole family knows about this deal.
