If there is no rum then it isn't a daquiri. A bit of trivia: The drink was originally called a Bacardi coctail. Bacardi won a lawsuit when they claimed that a Bacardi cocktail had to be made with Bacardi rum. Presto, a name change.
Yes. A daiquiri is always made with rum and margaritas are always made with tequila. A general rule of thumb, I guess. A traditional martini is made with gin and a martini made with vodka is always called a vodka martini. It has been like this since the beginning of the cocktail.
