Whydo shop bought ice cubes melt in the middle 1st compared to home made ones?!

Question:

Whydo shop bought ice cubes melt in the middle 1st compared to home made ones?

i have been buying ice cubed from the shop and they always melt inside leaving a whole. Home made icecubes just melt. why is this?

Answers:
i have noticed this too. could it be down to the handling of these ice cubes... wot a great question

mann r u stoned lol

i have noticed this, especially when coke fizzes up when your pour it over the cubes, but does not when you pour a spirit over them first.

The ice cubes you buy are not actually cubes like the type made at home. They have one or two deep 'dimples' in the side. This increases the surface area of the ice, thereby cooling your beverage quicker. The atypical shape results in a melting pattern quite different from solid cubes.

good question, maybe the scholars can answer this one. also why do the store ones look prettier? no such thing as a dumb question

Good Question?? Don't bl***dy know!! maybe home made is better and it cheaping that that one u buy at shop.

Industrial grade ice makers use a center chilling rod in addition to the regular perimiter refrigeration to help freeze the water quicker. They can make ice in large volume this way, which is the basic idea.
The result is not really a cube at all, but more like a donut. It chills faster, but also melts faster too (more surface area).
