I have an old bottle of wine (10 years). Is it safe to drink?!

Question:

I have an old bottle of wine (10 years). Is it safe to drink?

My boyfriend is convinced it will make me sick if I drink it? I told him alcohol does not get old. Who's right?

Answers:
First is this a white wine? How was it stored?
Only a very small amount of Chardonnay and Sauvignon
Blancs can last 5 to 10yrs.
The majority of wines made in the world are best when they are just released or consumed within one to two years of the vintage. However many wines are drinkable at 5, 10 and even 15yrs of age. (Mostly Reds)
Light, heat and Oxidation are very destructive to a bottle of wine. So if your 10yr old wine is a red, Enjoy!
If your wine is a white, its possible it could have spoiled.
Good luck.

wine gets finer with time. its perfectly safe to drink alot of people buy wine just to let it sit for years

wine and alcohol age it does not go bad you can hold that for 50 yrs and it will b fine . tell him ustop worring

You're right.

yeap it is ok

YES!!! good lord, you can buy wine older than that lol i hope you are kidding, **** like that gets better with age.

The older the wine, the better.

the older the wine is the better it gets that's why some of the most expensive wines are over a hundred years old and over a thousand bucks a bottle you want older wine it also increases the resell value if its not open.

You'll be fine...you know the old saying Just Like a Fine Wine Better with Time. The older a wine is the more expensive it is, and the more exquisite the taste also.

Your boyfriend is right, wine can go flat, and spoil.

Wine just gets better with age, especialy reds. Cheers!

It is probably safe but proceed with caution! It is not always recommended to age table wines, so the taste certainly may not be any better then it would have been 10 years ago; it all depends on the wine and how it's been stored - it could, in fact, taste foul.

After opening the bottle examine the cork carefully. Make sure it looks intact and firm (the way you think a cork should look as soon as it comes out of a bottle). If it seems unusually saturated or crumbles, throw away the wine. If the cork is fine, take a small sip and, again, if anything seems at all "off" throw away the wine.

If everything works out, I hope you enjoy the bottle.

Although it is true that some wine gets better with age, that is not true of all wines as some may prime or mature faster than others causing it to 'spoil' earlier. I would recommend contacting the wine manufacturer or checking with a wine expert at the store you purchased your botlle at and they might know if it has passed its prime. It should not make you sick, but will probably taste a little funky.

wine is supposed to get better with age, if stored properly otherwise you just have an expensive bottle vinegar.

To store the wine it has to be dark, cool place, and laid down. Meaning laying on it's side, not upright.

to know if it's bad open it up and smell it, if it smells like wet cardboard then it's gone bad.
I say go for it and enjoy.

youre joking... he cant be that dumb. its better than it was 10 years ago.
