I have a few questions in regard to rum...?!

Question:

I have a few questions in regard to rum...?

1.) What is a high quality rum? (But not too high of a quality. I want to try and keep it under $30)

2.) What is the closest rum to what the pirates drank?

Answers:
Myer's Dark Rum is usually available under $20, and is generally by far the best for any rum drink other than rum and coke (Myers n' Tonic is my favorite mixed drink).

Sipping rum under $30 is a bit dicey, as all are imperfect. However, if you want the pirate experience, grab the cheapest rum you can find, add a smidge of lemon sugar and enjoy (or, rather, gag)...

Get a puerto rican or cuban rum that says "a?ejo" on it.

1) Don Q
2) No clue

Try Havana Club - great stuff (If you live in the USA though, it's likely unavailable, at least not the real Cuban stuff)

Bacardi is decent, as is lambs and gosling.

For pirate rum, I'd suggest buying the cheapest strongest amber rum available. The stuff wasn't so smooth in those days. Mix with seawater for a real naval experience.

Bacardi is a really good rum and the pirates drank dark rum you might want to try Bacardi 151 or you can go with captain Morgan spiced rum Bacardi is higher quality though

Appleton's Jamaican Rum,

From a professional swabbie.
1) Sailor Jerry's Rum is great.
2) Pirates drank whatever they could steal. The closest you would get is Pusser's Navy rum with a grog recipe you can find on any website. Basically add water, sugar, salt, and lime juice.

Go Jamaican!!! Appleton Estate Rum is great.
