What is a description of a part of town or area a dive bar might be found in?
And a general description of what a dive bar is itself? What it's like to work in one? Their policies etc.

Years ago, it was called skid row.
the other side of the tracks
usually in a bad area, the patrons are mostly drunks and down and out people, I guess it would suck to work there, they probably have a lot of fights
A dive bar is really a "neighborhood bar" ...it's a place that all kinds of people may go to... The part of town that a dive bar would be in would be the "seedy" part of town... meaning the part of town where you would have to be cautious.
It's a dive, not a dive bar. A dive is a cheap bar in a low-rent neighborhood (near the docks, or on the wrong side of the tracks, etc.) where low-class people and shady types hang out-- like bikers, criminals, sailors, prostitutes, etc. There is often illegal activity of some type happening in a dive. I don't know what it's like to work in one. Some of those places are controlled by organized crime.
One where the minorities and white trash outnumber everyone else. Everything goes at a dive bar. Crack is as abundant as beer and pulltabs. The bathrooms are run down and have a trough style urinal or just a hole in the cement. Usually in an urban part of town. Small, smoke-filled, and stinky
red light district.
Anywhere, it depends when the liquor license was established. They are fun to work at if you like drinking/ drunk people. Their policies are drink up/ pay up, no shanking of other patrons, try to keep your clothes on and if you puke, you clean it up.
A Dive Bar could be any locals bar.
We are talking a place that does not have a dress code.
A Dive Bar should always have really cheep drinks.
It would be a working mans bar. Blue collar all the way. It does not mean it has to be dark and seedy. As for drugs and illegal activity, well that is in the back of most all bars. You show me a bar with out some kind of illegal activity and I will show you a bar about to go out of business.
I agree with Foster a dive bar would Like 'Cheers"where everybody nows your name.I work at a dive bar in Redondo Beach Cali which is a high rent neighborhood

that question depends alot on where you are. there are dive bars everywhere...in good areas, bad areas, big cities, small towns.
to me a dive bar is just a smaller place where there's not alot of people, but usually everyone knows eachother, not alot of selection. but usually i think dive bars are great places to go. you can get to know people, drinks are usually dirt cheap, and everyones pretty friendly.
