Where did the "Beer before liquor...." myth start?!

Question: My opinion is that it began with people who drank to much, got sick and then didn't want to take responsibility for their actions. And please don't answer with something like "it is so totally true.. This one time I drank like 6 beers and then I had like 6 more shots and I tossed my cookies."

NO SH**! You tossed your cookies because you drank too much!

You know what never mind go ahead and answer with why you think it is not a myth I want to hear your reasoning. Maybe if you can back it up with scientific proof I'll buy it.

All alcohol contains Ethanol Alcohol more commonly known as "drinking alcohol" and is the same no matter what it is suspended in.

A standard serving of alcohol (8oz beer/12oz wine/2oz liquor/shot) all contain the same amount of alcohol per volume. I said standard I understand that there are beers with high ABV (I drink them) and alcohol with higher proof than the norm. They are the exception to the rule and are not normally available to the general...

All you need is one person to think this is true and it's true

this is not a myth.. the monks frist made honny mead than beer. they also .buy acident made the frist carbanated. beer.

Actually, it think it holds a grain of truth to it. Not because the overall amount of Alcohol changes, but because the speed with which it enters changes.

Bringing yourself to tipsy with beer and then downing 6 shots in an hour or so will leave you feeling worse than having several shots and then having a beer an hour.

it's all a matter of when the influx is put in. People tend to drink beer slower than shots, letting the body metabolize it faster than it is coming in.

NOt a myth!!

I drank eight shots of tequila and Sambuca, aka silver bullets, and a third of a bottle of Buckfast this weekend, in less than fifteen minutes and was fine, then went on to steal I d'no how many leftover pints in the pub/club and was fine. Some people just have weak stomachs. Alcohol gives me superhuman drinking and eating superpowers, never get sick.

beer before liquor never been sicker
liquor be for beer your in the clear.

The myth really has some merit, only if your total alcohol consumption is within your limits.

What the saying refers to is your hangover. If you finish the night with liquor your hangover should be worse than if you started with liquor.

Since alcohol dehydrates you, if you drink liquor first the beer (being some 95% water) is more hydrating than liquor. Thus, finishing with beer is better than finishing with liquor. Ideally, you'd finish with water in either case, but this assumes you pass out before thinking about that.

i like beer mmmmm
