How much does it cost to have a 5 pound cylinder filled with food and beverage grade CO2?!
Answers: I aquired a second hand "Kegerator" and was wondering how much it was to fill the CO2 bottle. Also, do they fill your own bottle for that or do you exchange an empty cylinder for a full one?
Varied options here....
First it would depend upon where you live....and what companies you have around you that provide gas....
Also would suggest you use what's called beer gas, which is 50% nitrogen / 50 % Co2 .. It provides better tasting beer, without the bitter after taste. I use a company called airgas in my area, that charges me about $23 for a beer gas exchange, tank for tank. Co2 is cheaper (I think they get $11 a tank) . To refill is different...it is cheaper to do refill, but harder to find places that do it. Check with your local homebrew store, they have a source I am sure, as they sell tanks and equipment. Either way would suggest beer gas instead of straight Co2, and if you like Guiness, use straight nitrogen for that. Happy pouring..
They filled my own bottle and I paid $12 at liquor-mart in San Diego. I was told by a local welding place that I they would switch out my bottle for one of theirs so it varies from place to place.
I pay $12 in Pennsylvania. If the tank is past a certain age (5 years I think) it must be tested and stamped as inspected before they will refill it.
$15
