RE chocolate - Why do they say "Yorkie.Its not for girls".?

I know plenty of girls who like Yorkie bars

Because it takes a girl that long too eat a chunk that they can't go that long without talking !!!!!!

due to the advertising when it first was on tv...it was supposed to be a big chunky bar of choc..for big chunky lorry drivers...that was years ago though!

because its supposedly big manly chunks rather than small squares

they may like it, but they are not supposed to eat it. It's a chocolate for blokes.
In fact I think it is officially illegal for girls to eat it
(if it's not it should be)

I've always wondered this! I've thought it's one of the stupidest slogans ever (and not just cos I'm a girl...!)

It's reverse psychology - they are trying to get boys to buy them because they think its 'hard' (for REAL men only right?) and it gets girls to buy them because the girls think 'Only for BOYS huh - we'll see about that).

Thus both sectors purchase Yorkies...

Exactly that is the whole point of the advert.Tell the girls it is not for them and they can't have it and they will fall over themselves to get it. It's clever advertising psychology by someone who understands the female mind. And of course the guys will still buy it cause it is made for them.

Because you almost break your teeth trying to eat the stuff!
So unfair :o(

It's just advertising. A slogan that you will remember is the best advertising for any product it doesn't matter whether it's good or bad. It has worked with you.

It's just a bit of a laugh, saying it's a tough guys choc, actually i chipped my tooth on 1 bar, it is kinda tough he he

Hi there, It is purely advertising. It certainly gets alot of people's attention! I agree with Indy500! It should not be taken literally or personally.

One of the things matketeers try and do is increase the appeal of a product to customers that may not have previously bought an item.

chocolate is typically bought by more females than males, so if you can encourage men to buy the product you have increased the market and your share ( you hope) by targeting men you are implying that its special and manly to eat it a sort of subliminal permission.

Aside from that there may have been a direct targeting of pertrol service station buying habits - men being more likely to be " on the road" driving and impulse buying - so there could be just a classic product identity and identficatoin with the road and drviing so that the impulse to uy something to eat on the road sends the hand to the yorkee not the dairy milk or mars bar,

I give them to my lady friends and point out they are not allowed to eat them.
So when they do eat them, I tell the police.

Its not for girls coz the chunks are so big they'll only fit in a blokes mouth......need i say more!!!!!!!!!!!

Because the big chunks wont fit in girls mouths hence why they are only for men :)
